Favorite Foreign Language Film?

If you're an Audrey Tautou fan I suggest you check out À la folie... pas du tout. As for other films, I remember seeing a Russian film a while back entitled Scarecrow (not sure what the Russian title is). Also, I have seen all of Hayao Miyazaki's films and love them. Any fan of anime should check them out, he's a master. IMO the best are Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle.

An eclectic collection of films I have really enjoyed....

Ran
Das Boot
All About My Mother
La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful)
Raise the Red Lantern
Farewell My Concubine
The Scent of Green Papaya
The Road Home
The King of Masks
Red Sorghum
Fire
Earth
Water
(The last three make up the wonderful Indian trilogy by Deepa Mehta)

PS I am a great fan of Gong Li and Yimou Zhang

Hero
Seven Swords
Battle Royale
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Itchi The Killer

Anything by Almodovar!!!!
Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie, Delicatessen, & A Very Long Engagement
Most recently:
Tsotsi was pretty amazing
Cache
L'enfant

Don't see why so many people are bothered by subtitles. I don't have a problem with them. I prefer foreign films 'cause I watch films to get inspirations, to gain insights into life, history, humanity...and films from another cultural background tend to make me think more.
BTW, why Hidden tiger crouching Dragon generated such a stir in western world? It's not very well-received among Chinese audience. There must be a cultural thing. Anyone like to share his feeling about the film?

I refer to it as 'Crouching Tiger, Sleeping Audience'. There are fa better films of it's kind that never get as much recognition...

"Babette's Feast"
"Farewell My Concubine"
"Three Colours: Blue"

This is a great topic for a thread!

"Ring" is a great movie... the american remake is not so bad, but not as scary as the original...

The sequel/prequel movies are pure crap (the original ones... the remake is worse)

I couldn't get myself to see the sequel, it just looked so inferior to the original. That, and I hardly every go to see sequels to horror/suspense movies.

Y tu mamá también
The Motorcycle Diaries
Amelie
The Princess and the Warrior
Run Lola Run

I love me some Gael Garcia Bernal and Franka Potente :D
