My top three are:
1. Shelter
2. Prayers for Bobby
3. Latter Days

I honestly didn't like Brokeback Mountain that much. I found it too depressing. I love Shelter because it's so heart-warming, and has a happy ending (I LOVE happy endings). Prayers for Bobby is amazing, a tear-jerker, but powerful. Latter Days is romantic, often funny, and has some amazing quotes.

1. Were the World mine
2. Milk

That's all really. I agree, I didn't like Brokeback Mountain that much. I found it to be the most homophobic film of all time actually.

Movies where the gay character doesn't die or have AIDS, and isn't a prostitute or a closet case seem frustratingly few & far between.

I keep hearing people talk about Big Eden as this great film, and I cannot figure out why. The Native American character has the personality of a tree stump, and zero chemistry w/ Arye Gross (who I've always thought was really cute, which is what makes it so disappointing).

There's so much that is never fleshed out, and at least half of what *is* shown seems utterly pointless.

Can't access the picture... your post appears blank. Though it seems to be something to do with Shelter. I am going to assume that you were acknowledging the movie's undeniable awesomeness.
Doh! Damned anti-hotlinking scripts. :grrr:

I know, right? I used to watch gay movies on IFC every once in a while, and I think the only one I saw where the main character didn't kill himself/OD/die in some horrible accident was "The Sum of Us." And the whole hustler scene is way over-done. I mean, if you're going to make gay films, why not show the positives instead of showing only the negatives?? It's no wonder so many people think we are all AIDS-ridden, suicidal drug addicts! :grrr::grrr::grrr:

I also liked "Kiss the Bride." It was funny and cute, though I was a little disappointed by the ending. Still, it was a good movie.

He wasn't in it as far as I know.

the majority of gay movies are awful but some have posted excellent choices.

Most gay themed films are bad, only due to the acting and the poor funding. the only ones i can say i liked a lot are Brokeback Mountain, Beautiful Thing and Mysterious Skin. Shelter and Latter Days were good but i don't like films when the 20 year never explores there sexuality.
