Favorite Halloween Movie

I have 3 favorites, all 70's flicks of course:

Halloween-- the original one, best on of all of them by far, and the standard by wich slasher movies were made by...I don't understand how anybody can say the sequels are better than the first one. I remember going to the theater with my sister when this came out, it scared the crap out of everybody in the movie house, including me!

Legend of Hell House-- THE best ghost story ever made! it doesnt get anymore spookier than this!

Satans School for Girls--another outstanding flick from the 70's, AND its an Aaron Spelling movie (gotta be bad too) staring Kate Jackson, and Cheryl ladd-- a remake was made a few years ago, that doesnt even come close...

The original "Halloween" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" are, of course, classics that should be on the "must see" list of anyone interested in horror films.

My husband and I are about the most jaded, hardcore horror movie addicts you are likely to find, and there haven't been many movies that have been able to get under our skin. Among the handful that have, I would have to cite "Black Christmas" (the remake of which is soon to be released), "When A Stranger Calls" (a blatant -- but effective -- ripoff of both "Black Christmas" and "Halloween"), and "Se7en" as three movies that creeped me out the most.

The creepiest movie I have ever seen, however, is an obscure, low-budget gem from the early 70's called "Deathdream." It was directed by Bob Clark, who went on to direct "Black Christmas" a few years later, and tells the story of a GI killed in action during the Vietnam War who is willed back to life by his grief-stricken mother but comes back as the living dead. It not only works as a pure horror movie, but the sociopolitical subtext is even more topical now than ever with everything going on in Iraq. If you are a fan of horror movies, you have to put this on your "must see" list.

Mine would have to be Halloween.

But would ShowGIrls register as a scary movie?

^i actually liked the first one a lot, the second was good. i still haven't seen Halloweentown High, but i do plan on catching the new one.

The Ring was based on a Japanese movie called Ringu

OMG! I totally forgot that! I saw The Ring on pay-per-view with my dad and brother, OMG I was scared the WHOLE time! I didn't let THEM know that though, and to this day I haven't told anyone in real life that I put a chair in front of my tv so if she came out of it she would trip and I would have time to escape!

Alien - a classic

Event Horizon, which is god-like in its sheer terror-inducing brilliance.

The Shining (which scared the bejeebers out of me when I was a kid. My mom told me it would, though, and still I watched it).

Scream - for its style, substance and soundtrack.
