Please forgive me if there's a thread similar to this, but I'm interested to find out what everyone's favorite types of music are. Feel free to list your favorite genre, artist, album, song, or whatever you want! (!)

Personally, my favorite genres seem to be Rock and Pop music. However, soundtrack albums are the bulk of my collection. Musical soundtracks seem to be my soft spot, so to speak. My favorite album is definately the "Hairspray" movie soundtrack. Favorite artists include U2, Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, The Beatles, No Doubt, and Meat Loaf.

I like a little of everything. I prefer r&B/soul (and no, I'm not talking about hip-hop. There's a difference) and pop. But I like a little rock, country, opera, classical. I like it all.

My favorite artists are Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, LeAnn Rhimes, Evanescence and a lot of Idols!

Oh yeah, I love me some Idols. American, Australian, Norwegian, Netherlands, Indonesian, West African...hell, I'll em all!

Genres? That'll be tough. I own music in the following genres:

pop
rock
punk
soul
funk
blues
gospel
hardcore
new wave
no wave
easy listening
classic country
jazz
classical (and all related - baroque, etc)
avant-garde
experimental
folk/Americana
and folk music from:
Japan
China
Spain
India
Bali
Korea
Africa
Australia
Iran
Tibet
Peru
Albania
Costa Rica
Egypt

What are my favorites? Probably pop, rock, funk, soul and jazz. But I'd hate to have to give up any of it. :)

My favourite genre is without a doubt symphonic metal and alternative rock, I really love female fronted symphonic metal. Some industrial and gothic influences are also great. My favourite bands include:
Nightwish
Epica
After Forever
Evanescence
Within Temptation
Lacuna Coil
Theatre of Tragedy (I'm apparently one of the few who likes their industrial techno/electropop era)
Muse
Garbage
The Killers

I do listen to random stuff from bubblegum-pop to techno to heavy metal, the only genres I can't really get into is rap and hip-hop.

I mostly listen to classical since that was what I was pretty much raised in, and being a professional classical pianist that was all I played.

But I've recently got into folk/indie music and like some Pop.

pop/rock based piano, acoustic & electric guitar mainly, and a little blues and soul

Some of my favorites include: Sarah McLachlan, John Mayer, Jon McLaughlin, James Morrison, Aqualung, Snow Patrol, The Perishers

I like dance music
I like pop music like Madonna and P!nk
I like some rock music
I can handle some rap and hip hop
I like it when people who usually use instruments go all electronic

the only music I really can't stomach is country music.

If it's not dance, house, or techno, I'll probably give it a shot. Brief list of favorites:
Janis Joplin
Smashing Pumpkins
Hole
Flogging Molly
Pink
Dixie Chicks
Hank III
Voltaire
Regina Spektor
Fiona Apple
Bikini Kill/Julie Ruin/Le Tigre (pre-This Island)
Nirvana
Macy Gray
Ruth Brown
Susan Tedeschi
Pinetop Perkins (the man is 95 and STILL performing. Tell me that's not impressive.)

I'm a big big big jazz fan... Parker, Getz, The Dorsey's, Coltrane, Buddy Rich, Clifford Brown, Mingus, etc... And I love contemporary big band stuff like Gordon Goodwin.

You're one of the few people I've seen who's even heard of Susan Tedeschi. I only own one of her albums (Just Won't Burn) but I love her style!

^One of the best blues guitarists currently living. Love her.

I actually don't have Just Won't Burn...I have Better Days, and a live recording from a concert at Berklee College of Music.

I am gravitating away from the dance/techno scene here and pretty much hate everything that is played on the radio stations.

But lately I have seriously been into...

Sufjan Stevens
Belle and Sebastian
Ryan Adams
Spoon
the National
the British Sea Power
Elbow

Cheers!!! And I will give props to anyone who knows who says "cheers" after singing a tune live.
