Cher & David Bowie - Young Americans Medley (Live on The Cher Show)

David Bowie - Blackstar

Weird and creepy video.
I don't understand a word. Can anything summarize this song ? ;)

Re: David Bowie - Blackstar

When faced with a terminal illness, each of us responds with thoughts that attempt to understand the approaching end of ones journey through life. Bowie appears to represent his feeling in words that may make sense to him, but not to the observer.

It may have made sense originally: he liked the experimental writing technique used by William Burroughs, among others, called "cut up" writing. He'd write out his thoughts, then cut up the words and phrases, move them around to see what accidental groupings pleased him, and add upon that. Pretty cool!

Re: David Bowie - Blackstar

It's probably because it's in English.

Re: David Bowie - Blackstar

Bowie made arty music during his career not just some pop music---I guess when he knew he was going to die he went inward and arty with his last album. It's a bit dark and depressing but interesting stuff which got a lot of good reviews.

I watched it....

To sum it up simply...I think he is talking about his or someone else's life..and death...

Of course..it is art..and open to interpretation.....

I think kallipolis is right in post #3 as well....

Re: David Bowie - Blackstar

So you don't understand the song too.

No, I totally understand the song. I mostly understood it when it first came out. I knew it was about dealing with his own mortality. I just didn't know he meant he was actually terminally ill.

I have a massive David Bowie record collection. Have been a fan for decades. Almost my whole life.

Favorite song: Station to Station.
Favorite album: Low.
