Brett Favre asked the Packers to release him so he can return to the NFL with another team after apparently being told his latest retirement reversal wasn’t welcome news in Green Bay.

The team said it would do “what’s right” in response to Favre’s request, which was first reported by ESPN.

“Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms,” the team’s statement said.

quite frankly i think he should hang it up and stay retired. he was a brilliant quarterback, easily one of the best in the history of the nfl but at some point you have to call it a day. sure he'll get released and i'm sure someone will pick him up but i can't help but think his better days have already passed him. this is his ego saying he wants to play. oh well...
 
People began betting on Favre's moment of return the second he announced retirement. But quite honestly, I don't think a lot of us expected him to stay retired for long.

If he's smart, he'll never play again and hold on to the respect from fans and critics for decades. If he plays again, he risks following the path of Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls: became excellent, retired, returned, became mediocre, retired again.

It's important for Favre to ask, "what's more important?" Playing the game or commanding respect?
 
he had a greatttt year. it seemed fitting for him to retire. and now that he's prob gonna go to the bucs or jets (since he's talked to them) it's never gonna be the same
 
it won't look right seeing brett in a jet's uniform..oh well what can u do...i have however lost a lot of respect for him through this whole ordeal and for god's sakes, can ESPN shut the hell up about him?? i don't want to hear anything about him for awhile now
 
There's nothing wrong with wanting to play.

There's something MAJORLY wrong with playing for one team for many decades, doing a huge tear-filled retirement farewell, letting the team that counted on you completely rebuild their team in your absence...and then saying, "I want to come back. Is that OK?"

No, it's not OK. Make up your fucking mind. If I like my job, I stay there. I don't quit...and then, several months later, tell them I've changed my mind, and expect them to get rid of the person they've hired to replace me.

He's going to lose all of the respect and appreciation most had for him as he retired. After breaking records and finishing a great season, it was time for him to leave the sport.

Like Football Muscle said, we knew he was gonna come back and sadly, he just made the worst mistake of his career because either way now, he portrayed himself in a negative light.

Such a shame for such a great player.
 
I am so tired of Favre.I have lost all respect for him . From the Antics he pulled when the Packers did not accept him back to him calling the Lions and giving them tips. I know the Lions need all the help they can get but come on Favre.
 
Guess what? Now this prick un-retiring again! He's set to talk with Childress from the Vikings this week. I guess he wants to play for all 32 freakin' NFL teams.
 
this is getting a bit ridiculous. I mean really...enough is enough. He also isn't doing any favors for his reputation in Green Bay. He can pretty much forget about them retiring his number.
