I'm 31 years old male. I have seen a primary physician and had a urine test done. It revealed no signs of infection or anything but "large amounts" of blood. However, the urine is clear and yellow, so it's likely the microscopic kind of blood.

Aside from that, I have frequent urination but it changes all the time. Sometimes, it's for small amounts. Other times, it's for normal amounts. At night, it'll be calm to start the the night but then the frequent urination will flare up later on in the night. Other times, it'll be bad to start the night but eventually die down and I get some sleep finally.

I had 2 nights in a row where I had NO frequent urination at all and my peeing seemed normal during day too. It's very odd to me and I can't really point to one particular thing this could be.

I plan on seeing a urologist on Friday but until then, I have to just try and relax. Also, hoping that my urinary symptoms don't flare up at night. I completed my antibiotics prescribed but doesn't seem to have done anything for me.

I do notice some slight lower back pain in center, but it doesn't come on much at all and could just be a minor ache that happens now and then.

To recap:
Microscopic blood in urine, large amounts they say
frequent urination; amount of urine passed varies. sometimes frequent urination is gone.
NO pain or burning. More a tingly feeling at tip of penis where I feel like I might need to go again.

Maybe you need to clean your foreskin, penis?

Or maybe you need to drink more water?

In med school, they have a saying, "When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses, not zebras".

Bladder cancer is rare. Other things like urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostatitis are much more common in your age group.

Let us know what the urologist says.

I visited the urologist last Friday. I gave another urine sample for them and then explained everything that was going on. I had been diagnosed with Prostatitis back in 2014 so I brought that up too. She perked up and said that's likely what it is right there. She was just going to mention that as a possibility. I've been given antibiotics but the latest lab results again showed no infection. So taking the course of antibiotics will not help.

Also, prior to this visit, I had gone the entire week with NO urinary symptoms at all. But last night, I had a flare up of frequent urination. It obviously affected how I slept and I'm not even sure if I got any at all. I don't remember being up between 2:30 am and 5 am, and I got up at 5 with strong urge to go like I had been holding it for a while. I'm hopeful that was me sleeping? I think I did sleep some more afterwards but it's all kind of hazy.

I think the antibiotic has been making me feel more tired than usual and I plan on talking to urologist about the results soon. Though, she's supposed to call me so I'll give her time to do so. I'm not sure what's going on with me but the on/off frequent urination is very weird.

To followup on my earlier metaphor: she's doing exactly what she should do- she's working through the "horses", looking for the most common causes of your symptoms and tailoring the treatment to that. And let's hope that it is one of those easy-to-treat diagnosis and you'll feel better after treatment.

Out of curiosity, was this something unusual for you? You might jot down notes about your routine to look for patterns that might be connected to your other symptoms. For example, when you had the symptoms, what there something unusual that you did, something unusual that you ate or drank, medications you may have taken, etc?

Most of the antibiotics used for treating urological disorders can make you feel pretty strange. It can also affect your sleep and result in unusual dreams.

Drink plenty of water during the day since these antibiotics are generally flushed out through the kidneys.

The frequent urination is an issue for me and not something I have dealt with before. And no, there was nothing different that I did that might have triggered the symptoms. When I went through last week with no issues, I was doing the same things I am doing now. There doesn't seem to be anything that brings on the frequent urination and it's frustrating.

I'm more scared at the idea that I'm not sleeping at all. Like, I don't even know how I slept last night. I just know I started the night having to urinate frequently, this time for smaller amounts. It changed to normal amounts later on. I remember there being gaps in time where I don't remember being up but it did not feel like I was sleeping.

All I know is when I rub my eyes in the morning, I had these flaky things in corners of my eyes. Sleepies some may call them. Idk if that means I slept any or not but they weren't there when I started the night. Insomnia has been an issue for me in the past but I had been sleeping well prior to the urination thing. The urination thing has triggered insomnia because I have to keep getting up to pee.

I really hope I'm sleeping because I'm scared for myself if I'm not. Like, hallucinations and all kinds of stuff can happen. I just know that I've been awake/alert during day and able to do tasks as I normally would. I've had many bad nights over the years with just insomnia (no urination issues), and I'd always think I didn't sleep at all sometimes. But yet, I'd always get through my day just fine despite my doubts.

Sorry for the rambling. I'm just a mess to be honest.

What antibiotic did they prescribe for you and for how long?

Cipro. And for 4 weeks. However, I was told that I was to take that unless the results show I do not have an infection. The results came back and there is no signs of infection. I have left a message for my doctor explaining my flare up of symptoms and all. So I'm hopeful I can get prescribed something to tackle my symptoms until I can get more tests to find out what's wrong.

I feel okay right now. I'm awake and alert. Weird feeling around my eyes but don't burn. I'm trying to be optimistic that I got some sleep. I just want to feel like myself again but I can't until this issue is resolved.

You should mention the symptoms you are having to your doctor.

Ciprofloxacin has a fairly mild side effect profile but there are some rare side effects that include insomnia, headaches and other neurological symptoms. Your doctor should be made aware if you are having some symptoms that cannot be explained.

My symptoms have been cleared up all this week, just like last week. I did get results of my urine Cytology back and it revealed "atypical" cells in there. It doesn't mean cancer as there's not enough to say that but it's quite a worrisome test result. I'm waiting to hear from Dr on next step to take.

I just don't know how to feel. I've felt fine all this week as the flare up went away. If it were cancer, I feel like the symptoms I was experiencing wouldn't "flare up" for briefly for a few days, then for 5 days, go away. I'm just not sure.

I have noticed a minor ache at times in my lower left side on my back (flank). It sometimes feels like a tightness like a muscle injury or something and it mainly happens when moving around. But like mentioned, it's not always there. More often than not, I won't notice it.

The doctor has said that I will need a Cystoscopy and I am in process of booking an appointment. I really hope whatever is found to be the cause of my troubles to only be something relatively minor like a stone or something.

To be honest, I struggle to sleep at night when dealing with the frequent urination and it's scary not getting enough sleep. I do my best to get whatever sleep I can but it's a real struggle at times.

How are you doing? Have you had your appointment or is it coming up?

It's coming up on March 31st. Until then, all I can really do is wait till then. Honestly, most days I don't even have the frequent urination symptom. I only seem to have it on Sunday nights mostly. And even then, it only starts up after getting in bed for the night. It lasts for hours on end and I'm constantly having to pee every 10 minutes or less. For normal amounts.

Then, it'll return to normal eventually and won't come back again until like next Sunday night. It's very odd. I'm not sure this sounds like cancer to be honest. Maybe overactive bladder or enlarged prostate, etc. Idk.

How about sleep apnea? At my worst I was getting up every hour for about 6 hours because when you quit breathing your system give you a shot of adrenaline to take a breath and that adrenaline makes you want to pee. I got a cpap machine and within a couple of days I could tell it was working. If you snore, that may be a sign. Or if you neck size is 18" big that is suppose to be a good sign that you may have apnea. But for me, before treatment, it was a constant thing and not just a day or two a week. My caffeine consumption didn't help either. Are you extra sleepy on Sunday's?

Well how did the appointment go and/or subsequent appointments everything check out ok buddy?

I had my cystoscopy done and it revealed nothing wrong. It's likely that it's a pelvic floor muscle dysfunction or prostatitis. Lately, it's gotten worse in that it's happening day and night, seemingly not turning off at all. Really not sure what to do because the urologist would not prescribe me anything. He said he's hesitant to prescribe me something that could have unwanted side effects for someone my age.

Basically, things are essentially the same. The only thing that's changed is narrowing down what is ailing me.
