If Canada wants to sell their oil on the open market they can damn well transport it across their own territory. The USA gets nothing out of this pipeline other than the ecological risk of spills for the sake of facilitating multinational oil corporation's profits.

Keep in mind that most of the shares of those multinationals are owned by Americans with headquarters in Texas. They want the pipeline to go there because it is most convenient and profitable for them.

Doing it my way we would have turned off the existing pipelines to the States, refined it here and sold it to Asian markets, and told the Texans to go fuck themselves the last time the Americans blocked imports of Canadian lumber because we produce a better quality product more cheaply than the Americans, who think "Free Trade" means "only when the US is better at something, otherwise its Protectionism all the way, babay!"

Of course, Canadians as people in the U. S. also, often have a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) mindset.

That's why they stick nuclear waste, burning rubber or oil pipelines on Indian land. And that's what they're doing here too, except it also includes Native land never surrendered to the Canadian government. It's not their right to build a thing on it.
