Lately, that's been one of my health dilemmas. Some days it smelled like cooked sausage, and other days it's just a nasty tar smell that is choking. What could be causing this and how do I treat it?

Has the color changed?

The internet is a perfect resource for questions like this. I googled feces smell like tar and found that there are 47 possible causes.

Any health issue such as the one you have described should be checked out by a doctor.

We cannot state that yes, this is serious. You need to be examined and a stool sample taking for pathology.

Would if I could. Can't see the gastroenterologist until mid-February.

You either go to another one, or you wait. Only you can tell how bad it is or how bad it might get.

but asking anyone other than a physician is just plane crazy and irresponsible.

don't mess with your health.

Um...isn't that the point of this part of the forum to ask about health-related questions? If what I'm doing is wrong, then everyone else asking questions here should be reprimanded too, don't you think?

Then go to your nearest emergency room, where you will be assessed by a Dr.

Yes, from a brown, nutty texture to a bile-colored yellow.

A rapid change with dark brown or black stools would be something that we would recommend you go to an emergency room for.

Based upon what you've described, your family doctor should be able to run the necessary blood and stool tests to determine if there is an underlying problem. You shouldn't need to wait for a GI specialist appointment to have the testing done.

Didn't you recently become sexually active as a bottom and I believe with an aggressive top or two?

Has your diet changed in any way?

I've only been penetrated once and the guy wore protection. I'm on a soup diet now but that's no different than what I was eating before. My eating times vary depending on how I feel when my stomach is sick (I have a condition called Barrett's esophagus).

Considering you have a definitive diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus, combined with the recent changes in your stools. Then get down to your local ER to be properly assessed and if needed treated.

What is stopping you from doing this?

What is stopping you from doing this?

1. I don't have a car nor drive
2. The only person who can take me is working 5 days a week
3. The weather is too horrible to risk driving on the highway to reach the hospital
4. I can't bear a trip to the ER because going to hospitals makes my anxiety flare up real bad

What is stopping you calling the emergency services?

As for hospitals making you anxious, i would imagine thinking about the state of ones health to be more worrying.

Well, and the typical trip to ED is the US costs about $3,000 - $6,000.
