I've been on Manhunt for almost a month now (friend of mine suggested I join) and I've been having a major problem.

They claim to be the "world's largest gay hookup site", yet I seem to be having a problem trying to talk to other guys around my age. I mean, what else am I supposed to say besides a simple "hey how's it goin"? I've hardly been getting any responses. Some of my messages haven't even been read, while most of them have been, but they refuse to respond at all. Even when I want to IM any of them, they refuse to accept.

Now, I've even been having a similar problem on Grindr prior to joining MH, where no one on there would respond at all. This is putting me in a ridiculous position, as I now feel like an alien in my own area. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something? Are they just deciding to be so ignorant towards me? I cannot take it anymore.
 
What is your age? 108? If that's the case, it's a little over the sweet-spot.

Or, I suggest changing the picture that looks like one of the FBI's 10 most wanted. On second thought...4 of them actually look hot.

Or, perhaps you're still using your Holloween party picture. And by the way, your avatar looks hot if you use that but it's a bit of a turn off with the fingers - guys would think you're flicking them off, twice.

Or, your location is just low gay density. Go to Quebec or Montreal for some real fun once a month.

Other than those, I'm running out of suggestions right now. Craigslist?

I figured as much. That's why all the cities are full of gay guys because it affords anonymity and constant availability. That's why I'm so restless after just three days visiting relatives in out of the way places. Although the few guys that you do manage to hook up with tend to be college guys or really curious guys and the sex can be intense.

I don't mind small guys if they look nice. But the gf on the speaker-phone is just fucked up on so many levels for me.
 
Maybe work on some better pick up lines/opening statements than "how's it going". I also agree whatever photo you use on those types of sites makes a big difference. Think of it like a job interview and sell yourself without sounding like a used car salesman. You know you want them... you have to make them want/come to you.
 
I can only speak for myself, obviously, but I'd ignore a generic "how's it going?" message offhand unless the guy was stupidly hot.

generally, I tend to ignore messages unless they indicate in someway that the guy actually read my profile and isn't just spamming a generic line to every single guy who's online.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't even get someone to return a simple "hello". Even the guys that say they're just looking for someone to chat with. I'll send a reply saying I'm up for chatting and nothing. I'm very nice, friendly, easy to talk to. I know I'm not "hot" and "old". I get it. Its not like I'm just hitting up the hotties. I live in the Atlanta area. There are plenty of gay guys around. Apparently I'm the most hideous guy on the planet.

When I first started meeting guys like 4 years ago, they were all crawling at my feet. And I wasn't even into hookups then. Now that for the last year I've been trying to explore my physical side, I've had success a few times (even had my first threesome a couple of months ago). It just seems I'm stuck getting between 4"-7" if anyone catches my drift.
