God help me. I will be stuck on a bus for 5 1/2 hours (EACH WAY!!!!), with a group of 35 8th graders!!!!!!:help::cry:](*,)

We're taking a group to Oklahoma State University for a 2 hour tour....

I'm looking forward to seeing OSU again, but the bus ride will be the death of me...

Then on Friday, I get to take another group to an amusement park that's 3 hours away.

Help!!!! Pray for my sanity....

egads! i hope you're packing that flask for the trip! ;)

5 1/2 hours to spend 2 hours at a university? Why? And I ask this question as a fellow teacher who has taken students on long trips.

^As part of the college prep program I oversee, we're required to take teh students to at least one major university each year. Since this is the first year the district has had the program, we (the BoE) decided I should take my students to my alma mater...

Ouch. 13 hours straight with your 8th graders. Good luck with that.

This, too, shall pass Mikey.....

When I was teaching 6th grade, I was talked into, by a colleague, being a chaperone for the 8th grade annual trip because they needed more teachers.

It meant that there would be a sub for me for two days and I was still getting paid! So I did it. I was responsible for a group of four 8th grade boys (three of whom were former students of mine).

We took them from Western NY to Cleveland and Sandusky, Ohio. We left at 5:00 AM on a Thursday, and stopped for a specially arranged breakfast at Old Country Buffet in Erie PA. I was surprised at how behaved our five buses of almost 200 students were!

We arrived in Cleveland before noon, stopped for a quick MickeyD's lunch, and spent the afternoon at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, and a guided tour of Cleveland Browns Stadium. (all right next door to each other on the Lake Erie waterfront). Then we boarded a boat for a dinner cruise on the Cuyahoga River. We arrived at our hotel (The Radisson) in Sandusky in the evening. There were no problems at all with this group of kids. In the morning, after a hotel buffet breakfast, we spent the day at Cedar Point Amusement Park. At that point, the kids were pretty much on their own. The adults circulated the park on a rotating basis, looking for our bright yellow t-shirts (all kids wore their trip shirts).

The kids were told that they had to check in with their adult chaperone at least twice, at noon, and at 3:00, otherwise they would be in "dire straits." My four boys were no problem at all.

A bunch of the adults got together for a pleasant outdoor lunch at Johnny Rockets, me included!

It was too bad the weather didn't cooperate. One of those sudden flash rainstorms came off the lake, and we were caught in a torrential downpour as we were starting to re-load the buses to go home.

All in all though, it was a fun trip and a good memory. I think you'll find the fun in your trips too!

Yikes! Well best of luck to you!

the other side of this is how you can now instill the importance of education, and how hard work will pay off , responsiblity. I would asign someone to help and get things to keep them busy for some of the time.

And also the fact the this is your job you chose to do.

I think you should give your self a good pat on the back and feel that you have done your best to get these kids on a right track. Being a teacher is not easy I am sure.

My honey was a Instrutor at auto trade school for a number of yrs, has all his credentials. And he remembers 3 teachers from elm/ 2 jr /1 hs, that stood out because of there dedication to teach kids right.

So make it right and memorable for them, I sure you'll feel better:

oh

one day something happens to someone and you here they thank there teach (X) that showed them right.

So just have fun, why make it be miserable, if you go in thinking like this, then it will turn out that way.

focus on the ones you feel really want it, you cant save them all, but just one is worth it... I think.

For a sec I thought you meant that awful Ohio State University...Thank God. Buck the Fuckeyes!

What sanity you have to completely off the planet to even consider taking an apprentice terrorist anywhere :rotflmao: Let alone 35 of the little darlings.

Better mind set this morning... tired, but excited to be on campus...

-off I go to open the school

I'm home! Trip went well until dinner - first time I've ever had McDonald's tell me they will bill me rather than run the credit card... Oh, and I have a sunburn...

Kids were impressed with the campus and did extremely well with the bus trip. My kids got compliments on their manners everywhere we went!

Off to bed, as I have another early morning ahead of me. Taking some aspirin and calling it a night.

that's great mikey.

i'm sure the kids got a great experience and hopefully this will get them to seriously consider a college education. :)

I learned a lot about what I need to do in order to improve the college roadtrips as well.

-off on another trip today....
