The references listed on the wiki page are pretty weak. Checking the wikiHow page, I see that their page on this has been taken down for review.
For what it's worth, I think all of the wiki references are from 2017.
I wasn't able to get anywhere with Snopes, but it's been years since I've looked at that site so I may not be doing it right, or maybe I would need to open an account there.
