I've noticed this section is mostly for springboarding current writing projects so I apologize if this thread doesn't exactly belong here.

Writing the work isn't so hard for me, but finding people to read the damn stuff certainly is. Finding readers seems complicated even when writing fiction with "contemporary" characters, but when you add LGBTQ characters in the mix, or even make that part of the entire plot (which I'll argue you shouldn't do, since the narrative comes off preachy as fuck, and even if your story has a message to it, it's not so difficult to be subtle), there will be much less people to be interested in it. I know for a fact there will even be people who won't read your stuff but will be happy enough to hit the keyboards and give one-star shits on it, making sure fewer people will see it. I'm not saying this to flame anything, it's just the publishing world as it is.

Two of my favorite authors are trans, and have extensively written LGBTQ characters as well as straight, and even though they're so prolific and have been writing for so long, they only have something close to a cult following. I was wondering if anyone here has experience being genuinely published and is willing to offer suggestions on how to find readers, or even how to navigate the writing world as non-hetero people.

I have two short story collections, which I can't even sell as fire starters in winter. I have tons of ideas planned out and it's been my dream to be a writer since I was a kid, but at this present moment, I just don't see a writing career working out for me.

Sorry about that, I should have done a bit more research into the other areas. Is it possible to delete this specific thread?
