Firearms: What do you have/carry/want?

I don't worry about what other people have to say about it, I was just worried about this getting turned into the other thread.

Anyway yeah, the Sigmas are nice but the Ruger will definitely conceal better.

I wouldn't worry too much about the loss of capacity, but that's me. You're not going to have a FTF or FTE with a revolver, which is a major bonus, IMO.

I have several pocket autos but not much of the revolver variety. I think I might need to get some more of those. I'm thinking a Ruger SP101, some flavor of S&W, and probably a Python, though not for carry

The SP101 conceals very nicely. I've never gotten a concealed license because I don't like being treated like a criminal just to exercise an inherent right, but there are conditions under which I can carry that way anyway. I've carried it in bikini underwear under flimsy athletic shorts, and no one noticed it was a firearm....

We discussed the small cylinder capacity in tactical class, and the instructor (NRA/police/National Guard trained) pointed out that in far better than nine of ten instances, the first three rounds end a situation -- and when it doesn't, it usually means the bad guy went to cover... so we trained with quick-loaders.

Seeing that pic really makes me miss my old Ruger. I enjoyed tearing it down and reassembling without looking, while watching TV.

which guns would you recommend for a guy with skinny wrists? my wrist are small as hell and i know that if that shooting a powerful gun could break my wrists in half. my right wrist already has been injuried in the past. i'm a right man hand as in i'm dedicated to my right hand since i use it to *|*. not being funny but i'm saying.

Yep,I already found that out..The Sigma is fine in winter with bulky clothing, but it just won't do in the summer ..

That's what my Dad always says too..He's an old school revolver guy and doesn't have much use for magazine fed pistols.I like both but I agree w/my Dad ..The last thing in the world I wanna be doing when dealing with a threat is performing immediate action on my weapon..

Look into the Ruger SP101..It really seems like a great handgun. And,it's reasonably priced at around $450-ish..

Ah ok, thanks. That looks like a good revolver. I bet .357mag loads are a bit much out of that, but .38 is better for carry anyway, IMO. Gives me another revolver to consider :-)

There was a case in Oregon where a guy stopped a bad guy with .357 mag rounds, and got sued over the claim they were "excessive". Since the .38 special is sufficient to stop just about all threats, the argument was that he was intentionally out to harm people if attacked.

Ludicrously, the suit didn't get dismissed out of hand..... and though the citizen came out vindicated, he still had thousands in legal fees.

When heading for high-crime areas, I'd rather load with .357 mag wadcutters, but if I actually had to use them, I could be in serious trouble.

Try a .32. Some will tell you it's wimpy, but the other side of that is a gun more powerful than you can handle won't do you much good.

Whoa -- it's up a hundred since I had mine!

Shoulda charged the guy I loaned it to replacement price.....

OK, ok I'll give my expertise. For a true CCW everyday gun, I would never want to carry a full sized pistol like a Glock17/19 or a 1911. They are heavy and hard to truly conceal. I dig the KelTec PF9, though I don't own one. It's light, compact and fairly priced.

I love yesterday's story about a single mother who killed an intruder who broke into her child's room with a knife, while she was talking to a 911 dispatcher for 21 minutes waiting for the cops to get there. Yes, people should have the choice to defend themselves in these situations.

Well you didn't say what you want the gun for, and that's a very important piece of information.

Also, you'd be surprised how easy to shoot some larger calibers can be when in the right gun. That Kimber I pictured above, shoots like a dream! Take the same load in my 3" Colt, and it's a different story

I didn't hear that story. I did see the one about the lady who shot an intruder. Different story? Link please?

I've never handled the KelTec PF9, but I've heard good things.

For the record, the G19 is not a full size pistol. I actually have been meaning to get one, I think it's one of Glock's best models

Good point -- balance counts for a lot.

This reminds me of a big problem concerning firearms: many people who need one for protection can't afford one.

They should be exempt from all taxes and fees.

i want a gun the same reason you have a gun. i'm not going to hurt anybody or kill animals with it. just go to the shooting range and aim at paper targets.

Well I have different firearms for different purposes, but I gotcha.

Honestly, I think you might be well served by a nice .22lr pistol (assuming you want a pistol)

The recoil is next to nothing, and the ammo is cheap. They really are fun to shoot. If you think you might use it for self defense, I'd recommend something else, but for strictly target practice, a good .22lr is hard to beat given your considerations.

^ I think that's a pretty cool gun

Or any of these:

Or http://www.ruger.com/products/markIIITarget/models.html ...look around on the Ruger site, they have a lot of nice rimfires.

A good thing to do is find a local gun store, and go see what they have and how some different guns fit in your hands.

This one's awesome:

I was very pleasantly surprised when I bought my gun safe. Turns out WA doesn't tax gun safes. I thought that was great, especially with the sales tax at almost 10%
Saved me about $150

Kool.

I'll have to pass that on to the Pink Pistols here.

There must be a chapter up in your area -- you should look them up.

Ok yeah, I'll check them out.

I bought the safe from Sportco in Fife. They have a pretty decent selection and delivered for about ~$100, which I thought was very reasonable for a ~900 pound safe

The fun is in the playing and the competition, the purpose is entertainment, bonding and the competition.

Let me know when 'slow leak water-can shooting' or 'shot toy high jump' are included in the olympics and i might begin to develop an appreciation of their supposed 'entertainment value'.

I enjoyed shooting pellets at a toy spaceship before, but then, i was an adolescent.
