Firefly a special edition with new commentary is going to be released! I am very excited because I am such a big fan.

I know that Jewel Staite was asked to do a commentary this spring. No release date has been set. But the DVD can be pre-ordered at Amazon.com.

The Blu-ray release is Serenity. All I have heard(from the podcast "The Signal") was that a special edition box set was being released. And that Jewel Staite let the news go at a convention in Austrailia that she was asked to do a commentary.

That is all I know at this point.

To be honest even though I loved Serenity I couldn't really get into Firefly. I don't know why but it felt a bit clunky.

I didn't see it until after it had been canceled and released on DVD and when I did I couldn't understand how the hell it had gotten canceled in the first place...How many episodes did you watch?

Well I desperately need to finish the TWO series of Stand Alone Complex and then maybe I'll try it again. One of the things that gets to me is sticking shows on here (UK) and starting them by saying they're already cancelled stateside, and then screw the scheduling.

The article I linked clearly states this is Firefly, not Serenity. She did not "know". Fox clarified.

Yesterday we reported that Jewel Staite, who played "Kaylee" on Firefly, had talked a couple of weekends ago at the Supernova Pop Culture Expo in Australia. There Staite revealed that she had recently been asked to provide new commentary for what she called "a special edition of Firefly in a box set".

Our own Gord Lacey contacted Fox Home Entertainment about Staite's comments, and asked them if this release - if actually coming - would be on DVD or Blu-ray Disc. Fox replied that it is indeed coming, for Blu-ray Disc format!

Firefly has been seen broadcast in HD, but this will be the first high-definition home video release for episodes of the series. The feature film based on the series, Serenity, was previously released by Universal on the now-defunct HD DVD format, but is not yet available on Blu-ray Disc.

The response we received from Fox was very brief, but also commented that "word travels fast". As you can imagine by how recently Staite indicates she was contacted (she had "just heard", as you may recall), this package is still in the planning and development stages. Therefore, a release timeframe hasn't been set yet, and many details have not been finalized.
