Suddenly Firefox is burning 85-99% of my CPU use. I use the browser to do research while I'm writing my story, but it's tying things up so much a single five-letter word can take eight or ten seconds to type and show up on the screen.

Anyone got any notions what the trouble is and what to do about it?

I use Yahoo Messenger all the time which it doesn't slow me at all.......and I have only 1.25 gigs of RAM........are you REAL short on RAM?

Interesting.......you must have a shit ton of other junk running at startup.

Go to RUN, type msconfig hit enter and go to the startup tab.
Uncheck any crap you see there that doesn't have to run ALL the time.
If you don't know what a process is......google it.... ;)
Good luck.

I did that once. But several things are back -- they put themselves back in with every update. :grrr:

Glad you're on top of that stuff......most people aren't....... ;)

One of the worst offenders is QT Update....... :grrr:

No kidding....

I've been getting Adobe update notifications about four times a day. I got suspicious, and looked at my version and went on line to see what the latest was, and I'm up to date. Hate that....

Anyway -- any comments on the AppleSyncNotifier prog?

Just for kicks I did a MalwareBytes scan. There were 54 infections, including three different Trojans.

I think my buddy who borrows my computer for doing homework isn't just doing homework.

I have been noticing that Firefox crashes a lot more then it used too. It eats up my cpu and I have 8gigs of ram. This started with the latest version.

I've been doing a lot better since throwing some stuff out of the system tray (if that's what you call all the crap that loads automatically). Windows isn't happy about what I threw out, though; every time I log on it tells me I didn't let it boot normally, or something like that.

There was one prog in there called xDaemon that one web site said is harmless but slows things down and another said is stuck in by a Trojan, though it didn't say what it did. It's still there after running Malwarebytes, though.

If you are getting the WINDOWS CONFIGURATION UTILITY box at boot time just check the DO NOT SHOW...... box at that time.

(I hate to write something so obvious.....but I don't know what YOU know..... ;) )

I have the same issue. >_< It's a pain in my ass...

I don't want to disable flash or java though because I'm on Youtube constantly. I just turned off a ton of stuff on my start-up and I even accidentally uninstalled my Volume Control, Calculator and all that junk.
