I had an outdated version of Firefox (FF), but last Saturday, I got an automatic update for the latest version of FF, and FF opened/launched and worked with no problems at all. Then I ran into trouble with another program on my computer (a Dell desktop, with Windows XP), so I used the Restore Wizard and set a restore point of May26, 2012. Upon successfully doing that restore point, it did not solve my problem. So I used the Restore Wizard again, to “try” to “go back to today’s date (06-14-12)", but it came back with a message saying that it was unable to go back to a restore point of today. So I was okay with that, but when I clicked-on the icon to open FF it will not open/launch. I opened my programs option and tried to open FFdirectly, but it will not open/launch in that location either.

Any ideas what may have happed to my FF? Is there a chance to get it back ALONG with all of my bookmarks I had saved on that FF toolbar? I have used FF for over 3 years and I have never had a case where it would not open/launch. Thus far, the FF shortcut icon and the original start-up icon are both still present on my computer, so I’m guessing that it did not get deleted off of my computer when I was working on the restore point tweeking that I was doing.

It's always best to back up your bookmarks and it also saves the bookmarks on your toolbar as well, it will make it as an html file. Have you tried to reinstall Firefox? Have you gone directly to where it's installed and tried to open it from there instead of the shortcut?

I had problems when I updated FF a few weeks ago. Sites and features that worked fine in the older version are screwed up in the newer version. Mouse over pop ups have stopped working, flash players are really buggy, and downloads work when they want to. I'm about ready to chuck the whole thing and switch totally to Chrome. As the others have said, your bookmarks, etc should still be there if you uninstall and then reinstall the program. Mine were.

Oh thank you guys for the great help. I greatly appreciate your suggestions and help. What I ended up doing is going back in, setting my Restore Point to Tuesday (06-12-12) and once my computer re-booted (the restore point took this time),my FF was able to launch again, plus FF still had the updated version (that I installed last week) and all of my bookmarks were okay. WHEW!!!

Jft245, I did not want the newer/latest version of FF either, but last week, when I launched FF, it basically forced the update on me (while taking over my computer and did the update on it’s own) :grrr: and it did not give me any option to stop it from doing the upgrade :grrr:, but it did give me the option to close and not use FF. MAJOR FROWN!!! :( I really do not like the forced update, but “I’m trying” to live with it and I’m slowly getting use to it. Yet about a year ago, when I got the latest FF update, I too had similar problems like you are having now . . . thus is why I uninstalled that upgrade and download a FF version from about 5 years ago. LOL!!! It all worked out GREAT for me until last week, when I got forced with that mandatory upgrade. In regards to browsers, I also have Internet Explorer, Opera, and Google Chrome. I no longer use IE, because for some reason about 1 ½ years ago, it started doing everything so slowly when it came to browsing. I can do anything about 10 times faster on any other browser in comparison to IE. Yet I have Opera and Google Chrome as backup browsers that I keep on my desktop for various situations and emergencies.

GamerBear, “yes”. I went directly to where FF is installed (not using the shortcut) and tried to open it from there instead of the shortcut, but it would not launch. :( Is there a link that tells how to backup FF bookmarks? I had never thought to backup my bookmarks before. I am use to backing up everything else on my computer on a regular and semi-regular basis, but since I had never ever had trouble with one of my browsers toolbars and bookmarks before, I became complacent with it all and I never thought about having browser troubles and the possibility of losing my browser AND bookmarks before. YIKES!!! Yet what happened yesterday was a wake-up call for me. So it would be great to learn how to back-up my bookmarks. Yet I may manually create a Word document and save every bookmark link there (as my backup), because I would hate to lose any of my bookmarks, since some of them are over 5 years old and I would not easily know how to locate them again. Yet even if this happens again and I somehow losing my bookmarks, at least I would have a GIANT chunk of what I had before, even if I did not have every bookmark I currently have. Yet it was a gut-wrenching feeling  to know last night, that I may have lost my bookmarks, as I venture to guess I have well over 100 bookmarks.

Thanks again (ww) Guys you are the GREATEST!!! ..|

Couldn't help butt notice some of you are pretty new to the JustUsBoys and the JustUsBoys experience.

GamerBear has been here a lot longer than I have, Brandon has used several names during
this time and getsa REBORN with new names. The JustUsBoys for dummies tutorials have his
carbon footprint ALL over.

He is still a young guy butt, he knows his shit when it comes to the 'NERD' type stuff.
Super guy that will bend over backwards to help polite people. I've been a fan for over
7 years. You will be too.

BTW, he is a bit shy and easily embarrassed His other half Antdak is working on
that...show respect but you don't have to suck up.

Huh? I don't understand your post, I'm not the only person that helps, there are other people who are most likely certified to be more knowledgeable about computers.

<rant>

Is it me, or is FF fucked up? youtube vids weren't playing here on JustUsBoys, so go to youtube, clicked on several vids as and 'An error occured, please try later' message on the vid. Uses CrapCleaner, same problem with FF. Go to xtube, click on a vid, and nothing shows up where the vid is supposed to display. Reinstall flash, tries again, same problem. Uninstalls FF. Uses chrome and vids work, so it's not the flash problem... Downloads new FF, and same fricking problems as before. I think FF has had its day with me.

^ there was a problem with the latest flash version and firefox. there should be a small update for firefox and flash out now.

Star-warrior, I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. I use Windows XP and still have the latest version of FF. Though it was forced upon me :grrr:, so far I’m not having any troubles with it any longer. I wish that there was something I could do to help you. :( The only thing I can think of is, maybe you can go back and get an older version of FF? That is what I did 2 times and it worked for me, until FF forced this newest version on me a few weeks ago. Yet I’m able to play online videos on JUB, YouTube, and Xtube without any troubles.
