Man, I wish I remembered - I know the first one bought for me was Green Day's 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, from my first boyfriend.
The first one I bought for myself was either Nas' Illmatic, Gwen Stefani's Love. Angel. Music. Baby., Scarling's So Long, Scarecrow, or Jane Child's Welcome To The Real World.
What got me into them?
As far as Nas went, something about his lyrics and the way he was able to give me gritty New York, so to speak, rubbed me the right way. The song One Love actually has a place in my heart because I related to it, having had a friend/crush in jail at the time I bought it.
Gwen Stefani and Scarling are the same story - I was a fan of their previous bands(No Doubt and Jack Off Jill), and wanted to hear their new creations. I never went back and got the older stuff from Gwen, but I own nearly all the stuff from JoJ and Scarling(went through my little proto-goth metal phase when I was 20, so it was right up my alley to follow Jessicka and Manson).
Jane Child? I only picked up all three of her albums on the strength of a song I have only heard ONCE - Don't Wanna Fall In Love. Had to have it after that - think she's an amazing talent and songwriter. Wish she would hurry up with that rumored fourth album!
