First look at the NEW Freddy Krueger...

That shows abosolutely nothing. There was never any need to remake this film.

I agree for the most party about over doing the remakes, but I did end up liking the Rob Zombie "Halloween" remake, just because they added a lot of story in the beginning about how he ended up becoming a serial killer...that whole build up of him actually becoming the killer was really well written in my opinion, and added a nice touch to the movie. I think the rest was only loosely based on the original, though.

we'll see how it turns out...still awhile so anything could become of this. ;)

I would like to see how they reinterpret the character; I always liked the comedic side to Freddy, it might be interesting to see it go to a darker place.

The new Dude playing "Freddy" better sure as hell bring the SKILLS...The ORIGINAL Freddy was a Cool Fucker..

I will probably sit this remake out and just wait for HBO to broadcast it...

The "Dude" is Jackie Earl Haley, who was Rorschach in Watchmen. I think he has the gravitas to pull it off.

Hard to tell from those images, but he almost looks too slight, almost feminine in appearance.

I know in an interview with Jackie Earl Haley, he said that they had redesigned his face to appear more like burns scars rather than open wounds, and the nose is completely different if not almost absent.

Ugh. I hope this remake fails at the box office too. Because i really can't stomach being exposed to all the pending Nightmare sequels again. Is this really the new Hollywood? Remake every horror franchise for each generation?

I totally agree with all the comments about how it's pointless to be remaking classic horror films.

I know that The Nightmare on Elm Street movies did go down the comedy route towards the middle-end of the sequels, but I thought this added to the cheesy, I love it because it's so 80's value.

Robert Englund will always be Freddie and I can imagine a new actor is going to piss alot of fans off. The features above do look quite feminine, why not go for a darker image, perhaps have the makeup effects look like weeping, fresh burns (Symbolically showing that Freddie hasn't forgotten what the parents of Elm Street did to him) Infact why not just enhance the originals with better fx etc rather than remake the full movie? In my opinion this would give fans what they want.

And as for the Halloween remake by Rob Zombie, I found it completely irrelevant and detrimental to the original. In my opinion, what made the original so scary was the fact that Michael Myers seemed to come from a loving stable home, with no reason as to why he did what he did. By keeping his reasons and frame of mind a complete blank and by not showing him every two seconds on screen, I believe this led to a really scary and terrifying movie.

I don't know about you guys but the main girl playing Laurie in the new Halloween really did my t*ts in, never have I wanted a cast to die, at the hands of the serial killer so much!(!)(!)

Bingo. This is why I will never watch this version of the film. I read all about how it beefed up his character and showed his motivation, and I wanted no part of it. Michael Meyers was not the star of the first film, but his lack of onscreen time did not keep the horror of him from permeating the film. He WAS the boogeyman, with no rhyme or reason why, which made it truly scary. Being a voyeur into why he became this force not only demystifies him, but it feels gratuitous in a way.

Let's hope we don't get scenes of little Freddy playing in a sandbox with a menacing trench coat wearing stranger lurking nearby, just so that we can justify why he eventually turns into a monster.

Yeah I mean, the whole tortured kid idea is pretty lame, I guess the newer movie is trying to suggest that any kid with family problems will turn into an immortal killing machine.

I never thought I'd say this but the reactions of Jamie Lee Curtis and her co-stars in the original were pretty accurate, who wouldn't try hiding in a cupboard? Whereas the new victims run around trying to scream him (Michael Myers) to death.

I have a feeling they are going to attempt a whole backstory with Freddie Krueger, which won't work. The originals showed pieces of his life when he was alive and managed to make it effective with only giving a glimpse into his psyche.

I'm guessing the new movie will show how he was brought up by two loving parents, but was bullied endlessly by fellow school mates, causing a pyschosis in his later, adult life, leading to his interest in children.

WRONG! As we all know he was the result of a brutal attack on an innocent woman by a hundred madmen, which makes things very interesting for the character and actually quite a relevant debate to todays society. (unsociable behaviour passed through genetics).
