  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

[First Time] I just smoked a ciggarette!

It's so cute, I'm all buzzed from my first dose of nicotine. I would honestly be surprised if I bought a second pack.

Well, the shitty thing is that, after only a couple of cigarettes, you'll notice that you've quickly built up a tolerance to the "buzz". After awhile, you only smoke to feel "normal" and avoid anxiety, not to feel buzzed.

You'll have to smoke at least a cigarette a day, every day for a week or two before you become addicted, though. Don't let addiction creep up on you if you're not looking to become a smoker.

Think of it this way:

Why would you pay a corporation to slowly kill you ?

Well, if you're going to think that way, you might as well stop eating massively-manufactured and fast food, and getting drunk all the time too.

But what non-smokers don't understand: Truth Ads, and telling people "This is awful for you and going to kill you" is NOT effective in getting people to quit; Quitting because you know you have to is not at all the same as quitting because you want to. The OP obviously wants to smoke, so it would only be up to him to stop. . .if he wants to.

smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit. Why in the world would you start such a thing? With all that is known about the side effects and horrific diseases caused by smoking why would you even think of starting, much less do it? Smoking is as addictive as most drugs. Just because it's "legal" doesn't make it any less addictive.

I have an idea. go take a tour of a cancer center, a heart center and a pulmonary (lung) treatment center. Talk to the patients, doctors and nurses. Get a good idea of what is in your future. Lung cancer, emphysema, asthma, heart disease, bypass surgery, and many more wonderful illnesses. Then come back and tell us how much of a thrill smoking is.

I've had a grand father, an aunt and an uncle all die from lung cancer. They had quit smoking for over 30 years and it still got them. Another 2 aunts have major cardiac disease. A close friends father has emphysema and is slowly suffocating to death. Sounds so sheik and glamorous doesn't it.

Smoking is not cool. It's filthy, disgusting, addictive and it slowly kills you. Not much of a thrill to me.

Steven.

if you smoke 2 or 3 in a row you might feel really sick. try it :D

^yeah scare tactics don't work..but the money arguement may actually be more effective. No one wants to lose money...10 bucks a pack adds up or 6 a pack...whatever it is now...it varies but was 50 cents a pack when I bought my first and I thought that was plenty then...

In Canada, they're already 14-20 dollars a pack from what i've been told. People in Ontario smoke Belmonts, because they're one of the cheapest brands that don't taste like complete ass.

The idea is that they want to make it very expensive, and for the Fire Safe additive to be so unpleasant and to keep putting out your cigarette, to discourage as many new people from becoming smokers as possible. They're basically trying to make smoking pointless.

. . .but what they don't really seem to know, is that people are just starting to roll their own cigarettes, or even import them from Europe to avoid the fire safe additive, and to save on bulk,

You can never force people to quit something. If that were true, no teenager would have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

It could be argued that all the scare tactics actually *help* to sell cigarettes.

At least in terms of Freudian analysis, most people carry around a sort of subconscious death wish with them... People do things *because* it's bad for them.

If that's true or not is certainly up for debate, but for years and years advertisers included all sorts of subliminal death imagery in their ads. Especially easy to spot in 1970's ad copy. Skulls and crossbones and nooses and all sorts of things can be found airbrushed into the smoke and fires in the ads. They did the same thing in ads for alcohol as well.

An interesting thought.

Where's the slow clap icon thingey... ahh there we go. :=D:

Yep, might as well cut back on the fast food, processed crap, and only get tipsy once in a while.

Actually the jury is still out. Moderate regular wine drinking might even be healthful. But cigarettes kill, and we all know that so basically it is a taxable form of suicide.

What I'd like to know is how much have my income taxes been offset by the excise taxes on cigarettes. I'd kind of like to know that before making up my mind.

PM me and I'll be glad to explain, in detail, what it is like to be told you have lung cancer and everything that happens from then on, the radiation, the chemotherapy and the surgery. It isn't a pretty story.

Just a peek at what to expect - put your finger about 1/3 way down from the top of your shoulder blade and draw a line down to the bottom of your rib cage then forward to about the half-way mark just under your arm. That is the incision they make to remove a cancerous lung. I was distracted and lost count after they removed over 50 staples and they were just nearing the half way mark.

Cloves are how I started and your lung problems will come back by the way... Cloves are an anesthetic so you take larger hits and hold them longer than typical cigarettes and don't realize the damage you're doing. I didn't know I had asthma and started smoking with cloves, then I went to menthols... and then ended up in the ER. They even pushed me to the front of the line when they saw how purple my fingernails were.

Hahaha, cloves. Gross. Have fun with that cough you'll get.

What a shame.

We just buried a friend who died of lung cancer recently.

Smoker, by the way.

Tobacco is a powerful plant, it can be medicinal, it can be poisonous, like anything powerful, people will find a way to exploit it and ruin it. It really is powerful, though. Take care.
