Hi John and welcome to JUB. First time anal sex can be enjoyable if you take the time to prepare, use a good quality lube, go slow, and find a partner who you're comfortable talking with about your nerves and boundaries.

You say you love the smell but not everyone does. There are benefits in preparation and cleaning. Many tops will appreciate you for it, and also the act of preparing helps to relax and loosen you up. I use a bulb enema after a bowel movement and combine it with toy play to get myself ready. Try it and see how you feel without the pressure of sex to follow. I find cleaning is helped by a high fiber diet too - I suggest psyllium supplement such as Metamucil.

If you have a partner, talk with him about what you'd like to do. You don't need to start with full-on, dick-in-ass anal sex. Fingers or toy play can be fun too, and can be a good way to learn to relax and enjoy being naked with another guy. If you don't have a guy in mind, and you're thinking of doing it with a hookup, my advice is to make sure you feel safe with him and he'll go slow and respect your limits.
