Oh, good grief!

DAYTON, Ohio - The grounding of flights Sunday at Washington Reagan Airport was prompted by a woman who told an Ohio airport worker that she had received a message from God about a bomb aboard an airplane, the director of Dayton's airport said.

No explosives were found aboard the jet that flew from Dayton International Airport to Reagan, but the threat shut down the airport for about 20 minutes, the FBI said.

The woman indicated that she had received a message from God and "told the ticket-counter agent that the flight had to turn around because there was a bomb on it and people were going to die or something to that effect," Terrence Slaybaugh, director of the Dayton airport, told the Dayton Daily News.

I wonder what would have happened had she said that to a flight crew at Buffalo Air?

Do not call the person who made a decision to ground the flights irrational. Better turn to yourself and think, if you were about to board a plane and heard somebody says "there is going to be a bomb on the plane because..... (I feel so, god told me, I had a premonition, my mother told me right before she died that i was going to die in a plane on this day, etc and stuff like that)....and if they would be really insisting.. what would you do?

Wait... it takes just 20 minutes to search an entire plane for a bomb?!

Er... somehow I don't feel any safer reading that.

With all the islamists who blow themselves up in the name of god, they probably took her for a terrorist too.

I'm trying to think of a response to this. Hopefully they put her in jail and throw away the key. Reminded me of an article I read today about hackers. I forget what the group is called, but they said they hack company and government computers not to steal anything, but to show that it can be done and embarass and inconvenience people. Makes no sense to me at all to lead life this way. They should just quietly kill themselves and be done with their worthless lives. This whack job might consider the same thing if and when they let her go.

The person that grounded the flights really might have done the right thing. Sometimes, when someone involved with a crime has a change of heart but doesn't want to be caught, they report that they had a "feeling" a crime was going to happen or "they got a message from god." Or, someone slightly off in the head might have seen something actually incriminating and interpreted it as a "sign from god."

So the point is, whether or not the woman was crazy, better safe than sorry, yeah? Twenty minutes delay is better than a bombed plane. The woman should probably be fined or something for causing a panic... silly woman.

First of all, I would not fault the airline or TSA. I think they take every threat seriously.

As far as the loony-tunes woman is concerned, I would ban her from commercial air travel for life* and prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law. If found "not guilty by reason of insanity", I would lock the door to the "rehab center", throw away the key for as long as possible and the hell with her.

*Recently there was a football "fan" at the Meadowlands who decided to throw ice chunks at some people on the field. Unbeknownst to him, he was caught on camera, kicked out, and banned from either New York football venue for life. If it had been up to me, I would have had his gonads removed without anaesthesia, but I may have been too late.
