Flip4Mac and radio streaming

SashaMitchell's thread on problems with quicktime and flip4mac to play movies had stuff about my not being able to stream a bogotá radio station with flip4mac. I finally got it to work, and I am wondering if those of you who also could stream it had to do the same thing as I did -
the station is HJCK and I will put the site into a second post on the thread where you can go to stream the station - a combo of classical and jazz.

As long as I had the latest flip4mac software resident, I could not get the station. It would say that flip could not play this movie - of course, it is radio, not movie, but not important. I also have the latest quicktime 7.5 or 7.6 or something like that, plus the windows media player 9 for OS X Mac, Leopard 10.5.6, latest Safari 3.2.1, and plenty of power - 9 gig RAM and dual processors.

Anyway, I uninstalled the flip4mac. And forgot that I had not reinstalled it again just to be sure. So, I went to the HJCK stream site again in error - without flip4mac.

When I did, this message came up in a Safari box - instead of the message listed earlier -

Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn’t support. The application “Windows Media Player” may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?

I clicked OK. WMV came up, it buffered, and I began to hear HJCK great.

Those of you with Safari 3.2.1 - are you getting HJCK using flip4Mac, or are you also not using it and getting the WMV player coming up and bringing it in?

Would appreciate hearing the particulars of how you get it. Of course, I stream it now OK, but my thinking was that, because I am Mac, that I needed flip4mac for something normally coming in under Windows Media Player.

Hi what you experienced was normal. Safari found flip4mac on your computer and installed the plugin, if it hadnt found it I'm sure you would have been redirected to the microsoft flip4mac page. You cannot enjoy WMP content without flip4mac and I believe there is no alternative.

wirega56 - no, that is just it - it is the opposite. that is why it has confused me. I have NO flip4mac stuff on the Quad at all. When i DID have it, safari would tell me that FLIP could not play the stream. When I took it off - and it STILL is taken off, it streams through the WMP. HONESTLY. I am astounded by this.
Any of you who run MAC, - if you have safari 3.2.1, latest quicktime 7.5 or 7.6 - don't remember exactly, and have windows media player 9 for OS X , if you uninstall your flkp4mac and go to the HJCK site to stream, see if you get that message I referred to about maybe windows media being able to play it and would you like to try?
I have no flip4mac installed anymore - just checked the applications again - just in case when i started the stream process - if safari were going and getting i t for me without my knowledge. this has surprised me very much.

Yep, working well in Safari and Firefox 3 for me as well Ding.

gee guys - how astounding. right Keeland, flip is 2.2.1.11 - that i what i had in the applications folder. And, if I clicked on the HJCK stream button, a msg would come up FROM SAFARI saying the flip could not play the movie. And this happened on both the eMac and the Quad. I think it would say something about missing a plugin it needed . I knew that windows stopped the mac support several years ago.
I will try to play with this some more.
Incidentally, when you download the flip 2.2.1.11 - does it bring in the windows media player with it? do you need WMP at all in your apps?

And, yes, Keeland, HJCK is one good station. It is commercial too. Bogotá has 4 stations that do classical music and a couple hours jazz with Roberto Rodriguez Silva - a real jazz expert.
I don't know who understands español, but when HJCK announces itself with the Bach violin solo, the announcer is saying - I think I can get this word for word from my memory - only having heard it many thousnds of times

On the Quad, I removed WMP PLAYER from apps. I went to flip and downloaded again. Went to the HJCK site and clicked on en vivo al aire . the rooster page came up, but Safari then sent this box to me

I usually do a disk utility to repair permissions everyday when I get off the Quad for good. So, this time, I did it first thing on the Quad before doing anything. These are the permnission problems shown. I see these every day

next when i went to HJCK stream, i did not get a Safari message but a Flip4Mac message instead which says -
Flip4Mac cannot play this movie.
Windows Media Player may be able to play the movie.
Would you like to disable Flip4Mac and use Windows Media Player instead -
with a disable and cancel button.

This is the reason I finally took out all Flip and installed WMP and used it. I know I should be using FLIP4Mac with the OS X Leopard

I have an imac with perian and filp4mac, I am using Firefox 3.0.4 as my browser and the radio link played fine. Just gonna try from safari 3.1.2

Keeland, I certainly should be able to get another WMP VERsion 9 down and use it. It was doing the trick. Also, maybe I could go to the genius bar at the Mac store - unless they do not help you out with software glitches.
I think I will first see if I could get WMP in again.
Maybe,first, I should take your suggestion and download another latest version of Leopard 10.5.6,I think. Maybe that could clearup someof the permissions stuff
