Woke from a nap and ran channels to see if anything worth watching was on, and accidentally passed over a "news" channel long enough to see an artist's sketch of a courtroom and the "shocking" headline that some U.S. prisoners from 9/11 might NOT face the death penaly.

It's 2023. Ya THINK?

What ridiculous on-air content have YOU stumbled across lately? It's not like there's any lack of it. Can be commercials or programs.

(This thread is not about the death penalty though, but you can still post about that if derailing is more fun to you than the on-topic posting -- and you know who you are -- we can SEE you.)

I got rid of my TV years ago. I just watch Netflix and what I can find online. I live in a canyon and the only way to get TV was with cable. I have saved many thousands of dollars by getting rid of it. I was not using it, so I decided to just stop having one.

I know the feeling. I threw over cable years ago and only watch what is broadcast, other than a few shorts on YouTube. I don't enjoy movies on the laptop or phone.

When I move back to Arkansas, unless I do live in the Little Rock area, I won't have many on-air channels, but I guess I'd still have the internet "free" channels that make you have to hit the mute button every commercial break because they either pipe obnoxious theme music in, or play the same goddamned commercial every five minutes, often the same one back-to-back in the same break.

It's been years since I had a working TV setup. I live in an area where reception is difficult. And I'm too cheap for cable, so I never will get to experience that thrill many have of "cutting cable" since it was never connected in the first place. I just watch DVDs these days, most of which I get from the library, where they are priced at my favorite price: $0.

I'm especially glad to avoid broadcast news these days. Part of it is just how doom and gloom the media can be--although that's hardly a new thing (a high school teacher made some crack about the doom and gloom in the 80s).

I've never tried watching movies on a phone or laptop--but then I've never had a modern laptop or a smart phone. But I've thought it would be one of those things left for times when one wants "better than nothing." But interestingly, I have heard people say they prefer an iPad over a TV. I suppose it's one of those "your mileage varies" deals.

"Someday" I'd like to be able to set it up so I can watch some Internet content on a TV. I sometimes I have logner videos playing on the computer while I putter about. It might be nice to have those sent through a TV instead.

My laptop has a utility that allows me to send it to the TV, but it's a bit of a pain to do so, and you can't do anything else on the laptop while it's projecting it.

And, we can get your phone some free tutoring, y'know?

I just use my desktop.
I use my desktop computer for videos on-line and also the occasional e-book. But I sometimes get a bit tired sitting at a desktop computer to do everything. Part of me fantasizes about an iPad to do some of that. Although in order to use an iPad I'd first have to buy an iPad...

My phone is a flip phone. So, in modern terms, it's basially like a very dumb Kindegarten kid. Good luck tutoring it to do anything.

Anything on a FUX Chryon that we might flip by.

Otherwise, we watch zero 'news' on television for the last decade or more.

And rarely channel surf. All our programming is recorded. It must be 3 or 4 years since I did a random channel surf.

Some of you people offend my sensibilities. Watching films on tablets or phones. *clutches pearls*

That's like going to the supermarket to listen to the muzak when you want to hear music.

It's like washing your mouth with Listerine right before a meal.

Like fucking with a fifteenth century condom made of tortoiseshell and leather.
