Florida. Here we go again!!!!

Very interesting. I think this excerpt from the article sums it up perfectly:

Elizabeth Westfall, senior attorney with the Washington, D.C.-based Advancement Project, a civil rights group, said that when the law was in effect in 2006 and 2007, it disproportionately excluded Latino and African American voters who often had double last names that often didn't register accurately in the data files.

Can they make it any more inconvient to vote. If it's close we have to wait 48 hours to get the final results. That is if someone wants to take a day off from work to provide additional information to prove they are a registered voter. Living in Milwaukee I'm very aware of voter fraud but this will not work to allow everyone a chance to vote and voice their opinion in this election. It looks like it will cause many people's vote not to count, again. Does the state have information to see if your on the database or not before the election?

Van Hollen's lawsuit will muck up election, voting officials say

Well, it's not only Fla that they are trying to ban voters rights. Now it's going to Wisconsin. Will the GOP ever quit and die???

In answer to the above posts, yeah I have read that the African American voters were denied their right to vote.

We might as well make this thread to see how many of the other 48 states will prevent voters getting registered or denied voting.

Texas and Illinois used to be the states we all laughed-at for "unethical" voting practices. Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana were right up there, too. But nobody holds a candle to Florida Republicans for dirty tricks at the polls. Jeb Bush, Katherine Harris, Mel Martinez, Vern Buchanan, the list goes on. LBJ couldn't buy votes like these folks do!

Anyone who hasn't seen the HBO movie "Recount" really should. Florida shenanigans at their finest.

It's always interesting that they wait until the 11th hour to enact these rules. I've had to register twice because of falling off the database in Wisconsin. Van Holland is denying that it's politically driven, but why wait so long to bring this up.

The Progressive group One Wisconsin Now called on Van Hollen to recuse himself from any legal action connected to the general election because his role as GOP presidential candidate John McCain's statewide campaign co-chair constitutes a clear conflict of interest.
The governor is hiring his own lawyer to fight this.

There was a saying that LBJ used to say "vote early and vote often" but I've seen it elsewhere in other states, so probably another lie about LBJ.Wouldn't put it past him tho.

I've read his biography & several other sources where they say LBJ was never above buying precincts to win state elections. He had apparently gotten past that tendency when he ran for Pres in the 1960 primaries.

This relies too heavily on a matching system so I agree it could be problematic. In Georgia you have to show ID. A good thing.

We agree. ID, no problem. But trying to match-up a "database" is rather nebulous and prone to error.

Already watched it...| I recommend that movie to everyone.:-)

We have to show Tx DL when we vote, it is matched up to a computer printout of registered voters. I have never had a problem with it as I always change my address on my DL and with the county. Altho here when you get your DL they ask if you want to register to vote or not. So to change address I registered again at my new add. If everybody would do that , here anyway, there should never be a problem with voting.

I'm gonna have to read my local papers to see if we are having any problem with it. I get out of the State too much.

seems ok to me. why should we let people run around registering god only knos who, just to steel the election from the real voters?

^^I'm not sure people are running around registering god only knows who.
It's more that people who want to register and those already registered are coming up not able to vote when they should be ok to do so.

I think a few people not voting is a small price to prevent voter fraud.

You, sir, will make a very good Repug. I hope you never, never, never get into any kind of service to the public. I hope you don't have any kids, that they will not have insurance, or a good education, because with that attitude your kids will barely make it in this world.

Drewsuf; I don't care which way they vote, a few people left out means nothing to me compared to what would happen if voter fraud were allowed.
I explained my typing in another thread. My thumbs don't know how to spell (LOL). I'm at home on the computer now. So you won't be burdened with my cell phone shorthand. Until another day, anyway.
Oh, and did you mean "primary" as you typed, or "primarily" as I think you intended?
Marleyisalegend; I work for the BIA, why do you ask?
White Eagle (really? what nation?); my children are healthy and happy. they learn well and i keep them in very good health insurance.
