Florida High School Massacre

Re: Are Americns less sane/balanced?

There are some sane American companies:

Go to their FB page to support them. The Russian trolls and the knuckle draggers are out in full force.

So ummm....isn't that what I said; "Designate certain weapons for a military purpose...", which would prevent ownership by the general population?

What part of the second amendment allows for automatic machine guns to be banned but does allow semi-automatic military assault weapons to be owned by anyone who just wants one?

It wouldn't prevent gun ownership, it would protect it.

Though you're right -- from SCOTUS ruling in Miller, the ban on fully automatic weapons is not legitimate.

I had no idea what the names were (or are). I zoomed in on the photo in the article to read the names. Never heard of Mossberg, although I am familiar with Remington.

Re: Are Americns less sane/balanced?

Well, at least LL Bean has also decided that some Americans are not stable or balanced enough to purchase weapons as well and will no longer sell to people under age 21.

I am glad to see corporations doing something, hopefully they keep to to these policies and don't change them at later date where this just becomes good publicity for them. Because if our Government isn't going to do something about it, at least some one, some where is.

Re: Are Americns less sane/balanced?

So in an interesting and amusing twist, the Florida Senate actually passed a vote to ban AR-15s for two years, suddenly realized what they did, and held a second panicked vote to overturn the first one.

In the rare Saturday session, which included hours of debates and votes on numerous legislative amendments addressing firearm issues, the chamber temporarily approved a two-year ban on the purchase of AR-15 rifles in the Sunshine State.

The moment of drama came during an unrecorded voice vote where Florida senators shouted “yea” or “nay.” Florida Senate President Joe Negron, a Republican, afterward ruled the measure had been approved. But per chamber rules, the approval could be challenged — and that’s exactly what happened.

Republicans, who generally oppose most firearm restrictions, later reconsidered the measure and held a roll call vote on it, which struck down the two-year ban. According to the Times, just 15 minutes had passed between the time the measure was initially approved to the time it was reconsidered and struck down.

The vote on the measure was 21-17, with two Republicans joining the Democrats.

The first vote was a simple voice vote so the individual votes would not have been on the record. I suspect there were enough conservatives wanting to be able to say, "I supported the ban" to the right audiences that didn't think it would pass who gave it the needed votes. The second roll call vote was for the record though and so most didn't want to get caught as the Republican who voted for a gun ban.

Followup to the Florida vote:

Florida state senator: Only ‘thoughts and prayers’ will stop evil behind shootings

A Florida state senator said the only thing that is going to stop “the evil” behind mass shootings is to send “thoughts and prayers."

During a debate on a proposed assault weapons ban in the Florida legislature on Saturday, state Sen. Kelli Stargel (R) said she finds it offensive when people tell her that the kind words are not enough to stop mass shootings.

“When we say ‘thoughts and prayers,’ it’s frowned upon. And I take real offense at that because thoughts and prayers are really the only thing that’s gonna stop the evil from within the individual who is taking up their arms to do this kind of a massacre.”

So it is not what she means, I take it to mean that US politicians and people are simply incapable of doing anything about it.

Re: Are Americns less sane/balanced?

Oregon has decided that there are Americans not sane or balanced enough to own guns.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) signed a bill into law Monday that blocks convicted domestic abusers from owning guns, making the state the first to add a new gun safety law since the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., last month, HuffPost reported.

Every other state should be doing this.

So it is not what she means, I take it to mean that US politicians and people are simply incapable of doing anything about it.

What she's getting at is that until people's hearts change the violence isn't going away. And that's a solid a point; when I was in high school, no one thought that shooting others was a good idea for any reason ([Text: Removed]).

Meaningless theater. That you can say other states "should be doing this" just shows the ignorance brought to this issue by the left: it's already federal law that someone convicted of domestic violence can't buy a gun.

This is why no guns is much much better.
If he has a gun, he would have killed so many people:

From the ridiculous to the stupidly ridiculous:

Two SWAT members from a Florida police department who raced inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while a gunman killed 17 people are now being suspended from duty because they responded to the shooting without permission.

Detectives Jeffrey Gilbert and Carl Schlosser, both SWAT officers from the Miramar Police Department, were on duty when they headed to the Parkland, Florida school where 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz started shooting, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The two were not instructed to respond to the shooting, which created a security issue and resulted in their suspension, according to police.

Despite their suspensions, police union officials have supported Gilbert and Schlosser for doing what they thought was right.
