FLV conversion program help

When I watch a movie in YouTube, I can use CinemaForge to convert the .flv file in my cache to a .mpg file no problem. But CinemaForge doesn't seem to be able to convert the .flv saved files from XTube. The CinemaForge site didn't offer any help and there isn't a contact link to ask them. Anyone know which program I could use (preferably a free one) to convert the saved videos from xtube to .mpg? And does anyone know why the XTube viedos are different from YouTube?

I don't know the answer to your conversion question, but I do know that you can download a free .flv player, which means that you can leave the XTube files in this format.

Thanks for the info, but I want to put the clips on a disk and need to convert them to .mpg.

Thanks for the link, I checked it out, but it looks like it only converts files TO the .flv format. I want the other way around.

Has anyone tried Zamzar yet? I've bookmarked it, but haven't tried it so far.

It's a free online converter with a pretty impressive range of file types. The drawbacks: you need to upload your files one at a time, supply an email addy (OK, a disposable one will do) then wait for their mail to give you the link to your converted file.

My Real files are short 50's tunes (including rare Japanese doo-wop!), so I should be able to upload a whole bagful at a time.

does that work for video files also? i installed vlc, but when i convert flv files to mpeg i get a msg saying it's created an .mpg file that quicktime, imovie, and everything else can't understaned..

If you use mpeg4 or H264 codec the video works with quicktime although I have a few issues with audio

i'm not having any luck with it at all now.. everything is being saved as a 'document' with no extension of any kind.. i remember i was able to convert a flv into a mpg with vlc once, but it would only play in the vlc player and nothing else recognized it.. are there any other free downloads to convert on a mac?

It lets quicktime play flv's and from there you can export them to whatever just trying mp4 as I type...... It works and with sound!

looks like perian requires mac os x 4.7, and i'm still in the stone-age with 4.0.. lol.. i'm kinda surprised there's nothing easy to find for macs, but can anyone recommend what i should just buy?

ok, i downloaded free isquint and that's working to convert youtube .flvs to mp4 which was what i needed.. i'm not sure about pornotube/xtube .flvs tho.. i haven't tried it yet.. zamzar and other sites like it are great, but sometimes i like to control the qualiity..
