Hello,

When I download FLV movie files to my computer, has the movie file been downloaded into my hard disk or is it streaming to the content server? Riva FLV player tells me that the file is streaming so I am confused. Thanks.

you can download the file directly, but usually it plays through a .swf player, some sites prefer to use this i think cause its more supported than windows media xx

With Firefox they are stored in the cache. They always have a cryptic name which makes it hard to identify them. But their size and download time still gives them away. Just rename with .flv and move to any folder for your keeping.

If you use IE to go to the website you viewed the FLV file at, and view it again, it will be stored in your "C:\Documents and Settings\*USER ID*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5" folder, where it won't be deleted for some time. If you use your START > Search function and point it to that folder, and search for the file name, or *.flv you should be able to find the file and copy it to a more permenant location on your hard drive. Where you can view it again with something like FLV Player or VLC player.

Thanks for your replies - I am using Firefox and DownloadHelper to download videos. Do I still need to manually retrieve the files from cache?

Honestly i've found it's the easiest way. I mean there are some web portal sites that will cache a youtube vid for you, but if it's from another site, it won't work. It's really not that hard to get it from cache, just copy and paste. I'm a stubborn IE user, so i don't know the firefox cache location, or if it even caches files for long enough for you to grab the file, but i know the IE route will work, esp if it's only one file you want to grab.

Yeah, that's the program I use too. It seems to be a bit hit and miss though, sometimes it can't download the video for some reason.
