  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Foods you are always in the mood for?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaa! Most of the stuff I'm in the mood for I can no longer eat.

Homemade chili (which I'm simmering now).
Homemade ham and beans.
Homemade split pea and ham soup.
Homemade chicken noodle soup, homemade noodles. Can't do the noodles now.
Dark Belgian chocolate (can't have anymore).
Pecan pie (can't have anymore).
Strawberry/rhubarb pie using homegrown strawberries and rhubarb (can't have anymore).
Smoked cheddar cheese and not that crap you buy in the grocery store.
Smoked trout, stream or river. Not lake.
Lightly breaded fried pike.
Swedish potato sausage simmered in beer. I can only get it in the late fall, it's made by a local meat market.
Rabbit (when I was in high school we raised our own).
My friend's fruit cake (no, it's not dried out, very moist). Hell, just about anything she makes. She's a retired chef and a damn good cook.
Broccoli be it cooked or raw. Same with cauliflower.
Homemade potato salad.
Egg flower soup.

I've eaten lamb, nasty. I've eaten tripe, nasty. I've eaten goat, nasty. I've eaten bear, nasty. I've eaten mule deer, nasty. I've eaten duck, nasty.

I had a friend who thought this, too, until she tasted some merguez I'd made, and now I'm delighted that she has come to love lamb. Sometimes, it just takes the right dish to undo these unfortunate aversions.

Tripe, duck and goat are also delicious, but one thing at a time.

Oh I go through fits where I'll eat a lot of something, then be burned out on it for a few weeks or a month. These are some pretty constant cravings, but like I said I can sometimes eat myself silly fixing the same meals week after week and not eat it for several months. Some things I love:

Cedar plank salmon on the grill, with rice pilaf and a veggie side(asparagus, vegetable medley cooked in olive oil, broccoli but never nasty cheesy broccoli)

BBQ chicken on the grill
Beer butt chicken on the grill. Imagine like oven baked chicken but without all that greasyness and with a bit of cajun seasoning/spices

Grilled hamburgers, homemade, or at a great bar/pub, but never fast food.

Black beans, red beans and rice with andulli sausage, pinto beans with pork fat

The Christmas beans, probably one of my all time favorite foods, my dad makes it. You take that picked over christmas ham bone and chunks of the ham with a mix of white and pinto beans, always served with a side of corn bread, chow-chow, and hot sauce. I don't know his recipe, but I swear this meal is better than Christmas dinner with the ham. The beans are just so thick, full of fat, and AWESOME!!!

Jamboylia. I usually just do chicken and sausage because I'm too cheap to buy shrimp, but its great. Local bar makes theirs with sausage and shrimp, I can get mine close to being that good, but have never perfected their recipe.

Pizza. Good Pizza. I like Neopolitain or New York style, thin but firm crust, veggies, sometimes sausage, ham and pineapple depending on mood. Couple of good places near me, one is kind of pricey, so its a real treat IMO. They make a great pizza with spinich, mushrooms, white parmesan(not heavy alfredo) sauce.

Pizzas and cheeseburgers. I could eat them every day for lunch and dinner

Now that Summer is right around the corner I'm craving ice cream. I going to bring my new friend a pint of ginger ice cream.

Roast beef, boiled eggs, fried eggs, chocolate cake, a box of chocolates, strawberries, chocolate eclairs, Christmas Cake, birthday cake, Sardines, tapioca pudding, Yorkshire pudding, marzipan.
Please note that this is a list, and that I only have these one at a time, when it is appropriate!!! But yum, yum to all of them......and, yes, I have a sweet tooth.;)
