As promised, I am now starting a new story, though it's set in the same University as Rugby Team Stories. My inspiration for doing so is largely due to all the amazing stories we've been hearing recently about college athletes coming out and being accepted by their teams/schools.

ARRIVAL
"How are you feeling son?," my dad asked me as he drove the van packed with my things.
"Excited but a little nervous I guess," I replied as I stared out the window at the countryside.
My parents were driving me to my new home for the next four-plus years. I knew I picked the right place to go. It was just the right size, not too big, not too small, and located in a midsized city, but still only a few hours from the Chicago metro. I'd met with the football coaches. They all seemed nice. My only concern was coming out to them, specifically how could I pick or know what would be the right time.
Just a couple weeks ago I met with Steve, the American rugby player in Europe who made headlines after coming out of the closet after being attacked. He told me I should judge the situation and do whatever makes me comfortable. I sincerely hoped that I would feel comfortable with my team sooner rather then later.
"Robbie, it's okay to feel that way. Just remember we're only a few hours drive if you need us to come visit or you wanna come home," my mom said in a reassuring tone as she put her hand on my shoulder.
"It's not that. I just still have some nerves about when to tell my team I'm gay," I said.
"Remember what Steve said. If you feel comfortable telling them as a group, don't be afraid to. You're generation is overall very accepting of it. Heck you're high school practically cheered you!," my dad said with a chuckle.
"I know dad, but I knew most of my classmates since I was little. I don't know these guys other then having talked a little bit on Facebook," I said.
"Trust me, the bond of a college team is much stronger. You will grow close to them quickly and feel comfortable around them. You could always start by coming out to one particular person you feel comfortable with," dad said. He played football in college, so I trusted his words.
"That's a great idea. Thanks dad," I replied with a smile as we continued to drive towards my new home and future.
