When I joined JUB back in 2003, we were a much more innocent and smaller community. We were close knit, and there wasn't a lot of sniping each other.

But, it was inevitable. We became a victim of our own growth. More people meant more opinions, which meant more possibilities for strife.

We have matured as a site. We are not innocent anymore. But we have also learned so much as we have changed.

Those of us who became mods try to keep that original site philosophy of being a welcoming place for everyone.

It's not easy to do on a daily basis.

But I still believe in JUB, I am here each day as humanly possible. And you are still here, pretty much daily too, which proves your long term commitment to this site.

To answer your original question, JUB is definitely not the same site we joined originally. In some ways it is better, and in some ways it is not.

But you, my long time friend, are still the best.....:kiss:
 
I really enjoyed the 'intimacy' of the early days of JUB's evolution, and the Jubbers I consider my closest friends have all been posting here since before 2005. That said, I have also made some terrific friends who are relative 'newbies' to the boards and I would hope that our friendship will continue to flourish and grow as the years go by.

JUB has definitely changed over the years, but I guess that is to be expected. The most noticeable change for me is that there seem to be many more 'newbies' than ever before who post maybe once or twice and then are never heard of again, which I think is a pity. There also seem to be more completely pointless threads and posts involving 'personal' attacks on Jubbers than there ever used to be. However, I think the mods do an excellent job of trying to keep these under control.

On the positive side, I love the variety of people, personalities and nationalities who establish themselves here. It's so comforting to know that whatever your lifestyle and wherever you live, we all share similar joys and sorrows, hopes and fears, successes and failures. And when the chips are down, or when you need some advice, or even just a shoulder to lean on, there is always someone here with the wisdom, knowledge, maturity or experience to help you out or make you feel better.

JUB will no doubt continue to evolve as the years go by, but you can rest assured that I will still be hanging about like a bad smell for as long as I'm able, whether you like it or not! That will NEVER change! ..| (*8*)
 
I joined in 2006, and I think I've seen quite a bit since my arrival. From the gallery shutdown to the Supporter status. Changes have been immense, and at times, I was bummed out, but I credit JUB with many of my personal life changes. I wouldn't trade it for anything!
 
It used to be a cozier experience.
And quite honestly I see a lot of the class posters have gone...

More videos now ...no of course that's not a bad thing.
I mean they even serve porn, y'know
 
It's changed a lot. The loss of functioning img tags in the adult content areas really killed so much of what that area of the board was all about. I still miss that. Even after we had lost direct picture posting, we had active img tags for a while, which did work quite well, for a time.

I too miss the more intimate JUB.

Sure, JUB has changed, like some said, for the better and some NOT so good...

It's like everyone has a season and JUB with ALL it's wonderful growth has allowed us to have more and more gay porn and surely become ONE if not the upper tier of Gay pornography sites around!

That-being-said, we veterans MUST realize that JUB canNOT; nor willNOT stay the same for stagnation can most often be the true demise of gay pornography if NOT allowed to grow and prosper with it's new members...

So, we may talk about "the-good-ole-days" and feel some remorse for NOT being the small, intimate gay site that we once were; but indeed, we have become much, much more as far as awesome gay porn allows according to the freedoms of speech will allow!

NOW, lets NOT live in the past; but move forward and upward to even higher goals!(*8*)(*8*):kiss::kiss:

Being more or less house-bound and living a rather reclusive life, this forum is, for all intents and purposes, my only link to the world beyond the walls of my home, and certain members of JUB are my only friends. That's a comfort in itself.

Has it changed? Of course. Today there are many more members and, with more people, there is more conflict. It's inevitable. There are more egos to clash, and the clashes become more spectacular as the years go by.

Many people registered thinking that the JUB forums were for porn and quickly disappeared when they found out they really aren't. Others, with the overwhelming membership, find it difficult to get their foot in the door and simply choose to move along to something else.

But, as JUB has changed, I feel I've changed as well. Whereas I once defended myself and my opinions to the end, I now back off when I realize that a stalemate is the only conceivable result and the battle isn't worth the effort.

I've gained a lot of new friends as new people come along, but, for the most part, I still come here to visit with my old friends.
 
I think GrumpyBear has summed it up very well.
But this will happen when any group of people become as large as JUB has become. I have seen it happen on other forums on the web.

I also happens in real life, any pub, bar, club or community out there will change when new members come and old members leave.

It is just part of life.
 
i've been a member here since 2004 and yes, things have certainly changed. i see this as an evolution of sorts and like everything else there are good and bad things. thankfully the good easily outweigh the bad.
 
It's the same, better organised but still very much the same. I can understand you might feel it was better when it was a smaller community of people posting, but there are some really wonderful new people posting here if you take the time to get to know them. Imo it's certainly not as bad as you make it sound bradlee. (*8*)
 
Much to my surprise I see I joined in 2004 ! How time flies! JUB has certainly changed, as Zeremonie I miss the img tags ! When things were smaller it was certainly more intimate and their was a very much more personal involvement between guys, remember Dorking's great adventures! But there was also great conflict, no names, but it certainly got nasty at times !
Things move on , so does JUB , its a great site providing no one takes the comments too seriously! BTW I never look at the Politics Threads!

I remember way, way back when it was linkmeallover.stoon.ca. There wasn't even a messageboard.

Its nice to see the site explode in popularity. In this day and age, with so many forums around, it's rare to belong to one that still has such a personal feel to it. For the amount of members we have, I think JUB is doing pretty damn good.

I think it speaks to the phenomenon of what happens when the "social-space" of a forum as the population increases. Watching various events over the last few days, I think there are plenty of JUB citizens who demonstrate the ethic that graham suggests makes for a surviving forum: members who tell other members "you're out of line" when they go out of line, and the ethic of "if you wouldn't say it to their face, don't send it out over the keyboard."

...weeks back, I saw some relatively "new" voice mention that it can be intimidating for a newcomer to post much. I do think that sometimes, voices who are "in the know" and who have seen certain kinds of patterns repeat themselves over and over will come up with a succinct and efficient "slapdown" that sends someone away for ever.

So grumpy: I think I understand your apparent desire to mix only with those you "know and trust," people who've "been around for a while." But in terms of the storm-and-fury "newbies", is it interesting to you at all to "work with" voices that have potential?

...I think these forums are an excellent resource.

a number of my friends have become mods as well. i don't treat them any different then when they were regular jubbers. the thing is whether you're a mod, an admin or just a regular poster we are all jubbers here. ;)

and i've made it known that i don't recognize the mods authority over me! :badgrin:
 
Well of course, I too have seen the changes at JUB. By change, I mean the loss of personalities , I had , through posts and PM's got close to. When they left, the loss was felt.

I only have a certain amount of time to hit the forums and that is not the best time for members. Rarely, hell never, am I on the PC after 9.00 pm nor am I on early in the morning, due to other activities. So I miss the Popular times to post and when I read the threads, shucks, whatever I could contribute to, is no longer relevant.

Also, as someone pointed out, the relationships often get established when one posts or open a thread, the points of view get debated and so forth. After I post, most of the time, I then leave...and the thread dies.

Another thing I have noticed, aside from all the newbies and some bantering, is the fact that Hot Topics got slimmed down, with the opening of other forums. On some days, I will read all the new HT post "headlines" and my interest is not piked at all. Unfortunately, I never wander to the other forums, again lack of time.

Then I find I PM a lot more and have many friends because of that. Some I converse with via e-mail. But I do not exchange much via thread posts, as some often do.

Yup, as with everything else, JUB is changing and I know, will continue to do so. Is it better or worse? I think it's what each member personally makes of it.

I'm here ,and will stick with Justusboys, because I like this, my one and only membership site.


I am so glad to read bradlee and a few others. But bradlee, you are the one that made me look at my jeans differently and boy you have had some serious serious dangerous avatars in the past. Of course your posts' contents are also appreciated, that is when I can get my eyes to read them without being distracted by your siggy or avatar or....
