For people of mixed race

I've passed for black, I've passed for Hispanic, and I've even passed for white on traffic tickets.

I tell people the exact same reply, when asked what I am, I just tell 'em, "I'm 100% pure born-and-raised native Texan. And that's good enough for me." ..|

brings Tyson Beckford to my mind

Bahaha this totally made me laugh!

To answer the OP, I pick and choose. Sometimes I'm white, sometimes I'm Asian, sometimes I'm a specific type of Asian :P

For example, when someone asks me to do maths I say "Don't ask me, I'm not Asian!"
Or if I accidentally spell something wrong or stumble over my own tongue I say "I'm Asian, I'm allowed to have crap English sometimes!"

My favorite is "You're from Hong Kong!?! SPEAK JAPANESE!!!" and others along those lines :)

but yeah, main point is I get to pick and choose depending on the situation :P

An entertaining, and educational read. Thank you.

If your're 50% Irish, raised entirely by white people and educated in a largely white environment, you call yourself black . (Barry Obama)

I'm hesitant to post this thread, as most race-related threads go down in flames, but here goes...

If you're mixed-race, is there a particular term you would use to describe your race? I've heard some pretty interesting ones; one of my best friends picked up the term "chinegro" from the movie Domino.

here another bends ons it

what folk describe ors a terms a folk what brings up ( mixed race or anythin do a race ans stuff ? )

anyway

back ta land of oz where da penguins busy servin pink tea

;)

I just get called Mudblood, because I pretty much have everything under the sun in me.

I'm Filipino. I guess I could also be Filispanese. I have Chinese and Spanish blood in the mix...hooray. I never really bothered to go into details to determine what percentages I am -.-

People over here in Australia are terrified of using any describing words. You can see them look down or look away. Its forbidden to use the word 'half-caste'. People make use of the 'one-drop theory' because being indigenous is very fashionable here at the moment. And it can lead to financial advantage as well.

^Hmmm. That's interesting. Here in Canada, we're not fond of using terms to describe different races, either. Back when I was in cadet camp (basically like boot camp for kids), I once overheard a black girl described as "dark-skinned".

I know exactly what you mean. People go out of there to avoid mentioning race.

"Who is he?"
"The tall guy, with the glasses, he has a funny walk"
"You mean the black guy?"

I once had someone describe someone as "your skin colour".

I find it interesting that one of the few non-psycho, race-related threads vanishes off of the first page so quickly.

Oh deary me ....bump, bump, bumpitty, bump bump, to the max of bumpness.:gogirl:

Meanwhile ...remember that JUB is largely [STRIKE]infested[/STRIKE] populated by by those who happen to suffer the misfortune of hailing from the US-of-A, whence 'race'™ seems to be somewhat more of an obsession than in the rest of the civilised world. ](*,)
