For 'The Waltons' fans - Why did/do you watch the show?

Are you like me and watch the show for glimpses of Richard Thomas' prominent butt or his down-the-leg 'commando' crotch?

I think the producers and directors knew they had a good thing with Richard's backside and played it up as much as they could with from-the-rear camera angles and having Richard put his hands in his pockets so often.

The stories were okay, but I watched it for Richard, and I would have stopped watching entirely if Eric Scott hadn't grown up so well and taken over Richard's place in the butt department. (He was 'legal' when Richard left the show. Just so you know.)
 
I didn't watch the series, but the made-for-TV movie "The Homecoming," which was effectively the "pilot" for the series, is one of the best Christmas specials ever made. Whenever it comes on I watch it again. But the series itself never really captured my attention, though I remember it being extremely popular.

I've been looking, but found nothing. There's lots of promotional pictures of John-Boy, but mostly just his face or from the waist up.

It was an episode I watched last night about his father's 25th high school reunion (Season 4, 'The Prophecy'). There is a scene in it near the end. John-Boy is standing on the veranda and talking to one of his father's old classmates. The camera is positioned behind and to the right of John-Boy, showing him from about the belly-button down to mid thigh. Richard's butt takes up about half of the screen. The classmate takes up the other half. Richard had his hands in his pockets the entire time.

I didn't time the scene, but I'm guessing it went on for at least a minute and a half. Probably longer. It was a long speech.

It was what inspired me to write this thread. Alas, no pictures, though. Wish I could afford the DVDs so I could take screencaps.
 
Phew just the thought or memories. Yes there are a full sety of the series available here at the video rental shop it its was weiry to go through, I gave up after a while but they's be there 4 sure
 
We didn't have cable, and Dutch public television had only three channels, so it was the only thing to watch while peeling the potatoes.
 
I watched it because growing up it was a good show. Pretty much why I watch any show, I LIKED IT.
 
I watched when I was a kid, but haven't watched it in years. I'll ave to check it out again.
 
I always wanted to see Miss Emily and Miss Mamie in some hot sis-on-sis action after a few too many teacups of "The Recipe."

Does anybody remember the Carol Burnett parody, "The Walnuts"?

 
It's one of those 'comfort' programmes for me. The theme music just transports me back to my childhood, and everything seems right with the world again!

That was the scene where John-Boy was shot when he and his father and grandfather were trying to protect Martha Corinne's (Zeb's sister-in-law) home from a highway construction crew.

(By the way, did you know Will 'Grandpa' Geer was gay?)

I bought Season 5 on DVD and took a few screen caps this afternoon. I'm sure I'll find more:

"The Waltons" are some of my earliest childhood TV-watching memories...

I didn't think of "John Boy" as sexy back then, of course, but I DO remember one scene...

Grandpa is sitting at the table reading the newspaper, and looks up at Olivia and says, "I just read an article about some of those fancy "city folk" who don't get out of bed until 9am in the morning !

"9am ??!" replies an exasperated Olivia. "Why, the day is half over by then !"

I have NO idea why I remember that, but it's always stuck with me.

I got a copy of that episode and, for some reason, that scene isn't in it. Very disappointing, to be sure.

I found some other nice butt shots, though. Enjoy.
