Looks like we have another forest fire near me. #-o

***crosses fingers***

If you hear that it is headed towards Mtn. Cove.....that is me....

The dam that it started at is just over the hill about a mile away. If it head west, it will head toward me. If it heads south, it will head towards my mom. We both live against the forest.

The next couple days, temps are expected to be in the 100's with no humidity.

I think that the last time that we had a fire there was the Curve fire in 2002. (The news is not aware of this.)

Brush fire burning in Angeles National Forest, prompting campground evacuations [Updated]

August 25, 2009 | 5:06 pm
A fast-moving brush fire has broken out in Angeles National Forest near Highway 39, prompting evacuations of some campgrounds.
The fire broke out about 4:40 p.m. along San Gabriel Canyon Road near Morris Dam. KABC Channel 7 showed firefighters battling tall flames on a ridge off Highway 39, which is closed in both directions.
The fire burned about 25 acres but was growing. Firefighters and inmate crews were on the scene, and air support was making water drops, officials said.
Black smoke could be seen from around the San Gabriel Valley.
[Updated 5:24 p.m.: Crews from the U.S. Forest Service, along with water-dropping helicopters and a hand crew from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, are battling the blaze, said Inspector Frederic Stowers of the county Fire Department.]
Officials had issued a red flag fire warning for the region amid hot weather and winds.
[Updated 5:20 p.m.: The red flag warning was scheduled to go into effect at 6 a.m. Wednesday. About 125 firefighters were battling the blaze almost one hour after the fire began.]

metta do be careful! take every precaution that you can. (*8*)

Yikes ... Disco Inferno is just an old 70s song, not something to live through!

Load up the car with gas, and get ready your important papers, photos, water, food & snacks, a change of clothes, your computer (so you can JUB and tell us how it's going :) ), the kitty, and anything else important to take with you in case you need to evacuate. Time will be of the essence if that comes to pass.

And, lastly, do be careful. (*8*)

Thanks everyone. Greatly appreciate the concern. I'm not so sure that I would evacuate if we were told to do so. I have not decided yet.

Here's the rule. If you get a call about a 'voluntary evacuation' you get your stuff together, along with a few changes of clothes and have it all packed up in the vehicle.

Then if you get a 'mandatory' evacuation notice you are ready to go. You've seen the stories about only having 5 minutes to get out. It happens.

You can always unpack when the danger is over. Fires are scary and unpredictable.

Take care.

Yes, please get ready to vacate with some clothes and things of sentimental value. You don't know how fast that fire can pick up and turn in your direction.

And now, a word to the wise to anyone that ever has to evacuate their home for whatever reason:

If you have time, take pictures of every room. Better yet, take a video if you can. It is of great help when it comes time to talk to the insurance adjuster.

It is actually a good idea to do this once a year anyway and put the storage medium (videotape, DVD, memory card) in a safe place, a bank box if you have one (and if you don't they are only about $30 a year).

We are up to 750 acres as of this morning. smoke is very thick and its tough to keep it out of the house.

a little video:

We had both the Williams fire and the Curve fire in 2002. Much of that area burned in one or both of those fires. I don't think that the news crews or fire department have mentioned this.

But it looks like it is still burning the opposite direction of us.

I have been told that they are bringing in fire people from all over the place now. Updated information about the fire can be found on the following web page:

http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1852/

The fire is currently burning in a North Eastern direction, which is the opposite direction of me.

Winds have been pretty heavy earlier today.

Oh gesh...the link does not say much.....the fire chief told us to go to that web site to keep updated.

A friend of mine in SoCal was under threat of a forest fire last year. I tried to find current info on the web without much success.

The TV stations and newspapers didn't update frequently enough, and the message boards were full of people worried about their relatives. The people on the ground who actually knew what was going on either didn't have access to a computer or had more urgent things to do. Understandable but frustrating.

It is up to 1700 acres burned so far (Morris Fire).

Officials said containment of the Morris Fire might be days away. "We've got a good week's worth of firefighting ahead at least," Woychak said.

Where it says Roberts Creek is where I live.

There is also a fire in La Canada (Station Fire), which we have another jubber here that lives there.

Those pictures make me think of wildfires here that have come close to the city. Sounds like there's no imminent danger, but do be careful!

You flash across my mind every time I see an update on TV, metta....

I can't tell you anything you don't already know, just get the hell out of there if you need to....

"Stuff" can be replaced. You and your Mom cannot.

Lots of good thoughts are headed your way.

Good Luck, Metta. (*8*)

Do a rain dance or something. :gogirl:
