Forest Fire Close to me

Glad to hear that the fire near you is out.

I've been worrying about you every time I hear a new report.

This is very scary. Are you able to work or are you at home all the time waiting for the next bit of news?

I work at home. So, I guess...yes I'm at home....yes I'm at work. :)

I'm really not concerned about my home right now. I'm more concerned about other peoples homes. Mine is pretty safe right now.

It looks like the Station fire is finally getting a little better. Wow...over 120k acres.

The fire near me, the Morris fire, they are putting stuff on the soil to prevent erosion in the winter. Being that it was around one of the dams where we (in the specific city that I live in) get most of our water, it is important to minimize the erosion. And there is just smoldering gong on which is being watched closely.

Thanks again everyone! :)

Just got word that the city is having an emergency fire meeting tomorrow night do discuss plans, status and forcasts. The Station Fire is headed towards us now. That thing is enormous. I really have trouble believing that it could come this far. It would probably hit bradbury before us and some of those estates are worth over $30 million dollars.

Oh no!

I saw a video on the evening news a couple of nights ago -- a time lapse of the smoke from the fire with downtown LA in the foreground. It was incredible. Roiling clouds of smoke, just like the time lapse footage you often see of clouds, but much more sinister.

Stay safe. (*8*)

thank you...just got home from the gym and figured out where the racoons are living. They are living just a couple doors down in the big drain in the street rain gutter. 5 of them....they are so cute! :)

"The fire burned on the west side of the San Gabriel Wilderness and access is a problem. Contingency plans are being developed to stop the fire at Hwy 39 along the North Fork of the San Gabriel River."

I know where the East Fork is, I'm not so sure of where the North Fork is.

I guess I should go the meeting tomorrow so that I can find out where the North Fork is.

The Station Fire is the largest fire in the Angeles National Forest in recorded history. The largest prior fire in this forest was 75,000 acres around 1919. The Station Fire burned that much of an area in 1 day. It has now burned over 154,000 acres and almost 242 square miles.

The West side of the fire is under control. The East side is burning slowly but they are gong to let it burn for another 10 miles east to highway 39 because the terain is too steep for them to fight. I'm located South East (really South, as it will be passing us to the East). They say that we are not currently in danger, but that does not mean that we wont be, being that we are South of the fire and they need to let it burn behind us.

Another conern for us is from the Morris fire is the possible flooding this winter. The experts are saying that there is nothing they can do. They can't reseed the hills because they are too steep. So that puts into danger the dams and our water local water supply.

Water helicopters have been flying over my development all day long. They are getting the water from the dams near us. I did find it strage that they have a big map people talking right in front of the development that I live in. You would think they would be at the forest information booth. I guess they want to keep us informed being that we are so close to both fire areas.
