Found Hidden in the Roof of a Medieval Church

An 800 year old wood carving was found hidden in All Saints Church in Hereford England.

Thats a long time to wait.

I always loved the story about when they first noticed it some years ago.

It is enough knowing that the carver was likely one of the only people to know it was there...
 
As rareboy says, not exactly the latest news. Here's a link to a Hereford Times article from 2021 talking about the carving being rediscovered in the 1990's.

 
That reminds me of the seating at Dahlem-Dorf station in Berlin. Not very comfortable, as I recall.

Before I read the article, I wanted to post that this was likely the male counterpart of the Sheela na gig, and then -when I read the article there was actually a picture posted of one in another Herefordshire church.

The present idea about Sheela na gigs is that they were an ornamental rebuke against sinful carnality, and I suspect that the wood carving of the man served the same function.
