Attention Four foods you should eat every day for cleaner pooping.

1/2 cup red kidney beans (fork tender-not mushy)preferably in a salad.

5-6 ounces good quality greek yogurt

1- medium-large banana

1/2- cup oatmeal(made with 1 cup milk/water

What would happen if I scoffed a whole cup of kidney beans (my fave beans, yummy), several huge bananas (the only fruit that I truly love), ginormous bowls of oatmeal (a food of the Gods) ... but no Greek yoghurt (because I don't like the whey it is produced)?

OMG! Quick! Get the plunger ready!

I love kidney and chick peas as well.

I had to look up other probiotic foods, and they include sauerkraut, sour pickles, sourdough bread(Yum!)as well as miso soup, and some soft cheeses. But prebiotic foods can do just as well. You should be just fine. Happy pooping Hoody!

Prebiotics vs. Probiotics

While probiotic-foods have live bacteria, prebiotic foods feed the good bacteria already living in your gut. You can find prebiotics in items such as asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, bananas, oatmeal, red wine, honey, maple syrup, and legumes.

^ There's a distinct possibility that you would achieve orbit.

Vannie, since you recommend using kidney beans in a salad, why not give some recipes for them.

I used to love bananas, but they give me heartburn now for some reason.

I like granola in the morning. Wiping the gritty outgoings up later is part of the magic.

Most people with heart burn/acid reflux issues benefit from eating bananas....with a few exceptions when a banana creates heartburn. I consume three bananas daily in preference to taking Gaviscon, or Rennies.

This might sound strange to some of you but this was born from kicking the mayo habit,in tuna salad and potato salad.I don't have a name for it.But maybe it can be called (Potato tuna, bean salad in lettuce cups)

4-med/large microwaved potatoes(fork tender)leftover baked potatoes work very well)
peeled and cubed)
1-(15-16 ounce)dark red kidney beans/rinsed and drained thoroughly)I sometimes cook fresh kidney beans in a pressure cooker, but most often I use Goya low sodium dark red kidney beans.
1-red/white medium sized onion(diced small)
1-can Solid white (5-6 ounces) flaked
2-small heads Boston Lettuce(washed-dried-cored )separate leaves)

Place all in a bowl(except lettuce)

Dressing:
Zest of 1-lime
Juice of 2-limes
1/4 cup Ex Virg Olive oil(salt/pepper to taste)pinch of sugar)
Toss all with dressing adding 1/2 cup of your favorite parmesan cheese.Cover and refrigerate for an hour.Serve along side boston lettuce leaves.Spoon into leaves and enjoy.

Vegans/vegetarians can leave out the tuna/cheese,and still enjoy this. The Tonnino brand tuna fillets in olive oil are delicious in this as well.

The other thing we do with kidney beans is add them with pasta and tomato sauce, for better/less carbs and a bit more nutritional value.I love a good spicey tomato sauce with some spiral or seashell pasta.Eat a little less of the pasta by adding some kidney beans.
Kidney beans can be added to your favorite wraps/pitas,cold pasta salad and a nice vegetable/minestrone soup.

You can also make quick veggie/meatless burgers by grinding a few cups of cooked kidney beans along with some onion and garlic(maybe some bell pepper).Add some grated carrot, and some oats for texture, and you have a great tasting burger.Put on a roll with lettuce and tomato and bit of mayo or favorit condiment.Yummy in the tummy!

This is a spanish style rice and beans recipe I like.I use kidney instead of black beans.A nice piece of grilled chicken or fish on top is real good.

Kidney beans(fork tender)are a great source of >water absorbing< soluble fiber. They will sweep out your colon and keep it clean.:)

Add some seasoned breadcrumbs to bind this together, and for flavor as well.Brown lightly in a non-stick pan(with some olive oil is my choice) for several minutes per side.

Yummy^ :)

If anyone has a food processor,(and a jar of tahini)this recipe is quick and good.Refrigerate and let the flavors meld together a while before serving with crispy pita chips. :)

Spicy Dark Red Kidney Bean Hummus

1 garlic clove
2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 Tablespoons tahini (roasted sesame seed paste)
1 Teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1 (15 oz.) can dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 small jalapeno pepper, chopped (about 2 teaspoons) -less if you don't want it too spicy
Dash of crushed red pepper
2 Teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
Dash of ground red pepper

Place garlic in a food processor; process until finely chopped. Add lemon juice, tahini, cumin, salt, dark red kidney beans, jalapeno pepper, and crushed red pepper; process until smooth. Spoon bean mixture into a medium bowl, and drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil. Sprinkle with ground red pepper.

Ok...thats enough about kidney beans.

^I may well try that one. I think I have all the ingredients ready to go. It looks similar to a hummus recipe with kidney beans instead of chick peas.

I have copied this comment from the comments section of a newspaper article, recommending the Mediterranean diet:

http://www.theguardian.com/society/...-statins-heart-attack-cardiovascular#comments

On the Iberian peninsula, the main meal of the day is lunch or at least that is what we experienced. Breakfast is usually fresh bread, olive oil, fresh sliced tomatoes, olives and depending where you are garnishes of herbs followed by black coffee.
In Barcelona it was amusing to see, in our hotel, a sign encouraging guests to try a Mediterranean breakfast and watch the Americans almost empty salt shakers over the tomatoes.

Here in Galicia the old people continue working until the very end usually in their 90s.
