Fox Cancels "The O.C."

The O.C. was still on? I had no idea. The only FOX shows I watch are Prison Break and 24. FOX relies heavily upon Idol and baseball in order to stay afloat and has frequently been less than patient with series that underperformed, even when other networks might have shown more support.

I was a little sad watching tonights episode now knowing it's one of the last new episodes I'll ever see. I totally agree that the past two seasons were very skip worthy but this one really is good and it's more than ironic that THIS is the season they choose to cancel the series on.

I hope the CW picks it up and drops One Tree hill cuz that show sucks... and what the hell were the people who write for the show thinking when they wrote season 3???? They must have all been high on crack

Don't count on The O.C. moving to another network. When it's gone, it's gone. Also, I think this will be the last season for One Tree Hill as well because, let's face it, these petty unbelievable problems everyone is facing on the show will all seem very trivial and tired if they move to the 'college years'.

And I actually enjoyed the third season a great deal better than the second. They both weren't very good but the third season was more 'meh' compared to the second seasons 'WTF this is bad' feel.

I just watch sitcoms, so that's why I never saw "The O.C.". And speaking of "Grey's Anatomy", I never saw that series either. I'm sure everyone's heard a lot about the McDreamy and McSteamy bit on major news programs recently and it was even mentioned on E! and I think people are guessing the reason why they sexed up the series was because the ratings were falling.

Grey's Anatomy has been sexual from the beginning. And the ratings for Grey's have never been "falling".

So true the only thing Grey's has been doing is pullig the rating points off other shows... and I can't for the life of me determine why all the networks feel the need to put EVERY GOOD SHOW on Thursday. In the age of Tivo and VCRs no one needs to make a choice but I'm pretty sure that those things aren't factored into ratings (correct people who know more about this?) So they just give innacurate interpretations of how widely a show is watched. I mean if you the OC against freakin Deal or No Deal instead of Grey's Anatomy I'm sure that it'd rate much higher.

I hadn't watched any television show with any regularity until this year when I caught an episode of Heroes. Goodbye O.C. ye shant be missed.. by me at least.

wow i loved that show when iw atched it. Fox cancel all the ones i like, ie. tru calling!!! but then again they do have the best shows like family guy and the likes. :)

The Tru Calling thing pissed me off it premiered the season after Buffy wrapped and instead of putting it in the timespot where Buffy was... so all the Buffy fans who now have nothing to watch at that time and have know Eliza Dushku from Buffy would be caught on a similiar show with an appeal to the same type of cult base, they shoved it in the Thur 9 spot against the highest rated shows on TV. SLAP. I hate FOX the only thing that makes them moderately tolerable is that they bring me the simpsons.

What's petty about being involved in a school shooting? Or having a psychotic stalker who wants a relationship with you and will go to dangerous measures to obtain it? Or meeting your birth mother and then, once finally getting to know her, losing her to cancer not that long after?

I said petty UNBELIEVABLE problems. In not in the unbelievable way that these things can't happen in real life, because I know they can. Unbelieveable in the sense that ALL these problems seem to happen to them, one after another. It's getting old and there's not a lot of substance to the show anymore.

Yet, I say all these as if I don't watch it and haven't seen every episode even though I have, lol.

well I've never seen it but that's what dramas are, one problem after the other it's what gives you something to watch and I'd prefer original problems as described again to the constant on again off again relationship problems between teh two lead characters of most teen dramas

Plus it's got a rabid fan base, and in the end dollars and cents from viewership weigh more than the quality of any series when cancelation comes into question.

I love The OC I hope The CW does pick it up; I sure feel like they owe me after the Charmed thing and all.

Networks put their best shows on Thursday nights because movie studios are willing to pay premium prices to advertise their weekend movies to Thursday's relatively young, affluent audience.

Nielsen has just started measuring DVR viewership. The big debate in the industry is how over how long after the programs's original showing a DVR viewing should count. Advertisers (who are Nielsen's paying clients) want a short time frame of 1 day, because they believe their advertisements grow stale after that--and they should not have to pay for later viewing. Show producers, networks and TV stations want a longer time, so they can charge higher rates for more viewers.

This may be true, but let's not forget the fact that NBC got lucky in the 80's and created "Must-See-TV". For that reason, Thursday is still seen as prime night. There was a time in the 70's when Saturday was the big night. Times change.

OC isn't what it used to be anyway, but this season so far ain't as bad as the last one!
