Fox News Chief tells hosts "Shut Up - Tone it Down"

Nice spin job on the part of Ailes to try and shift blame awar from him and Murdoch ... acting as if the hosts do their own thing. They do exactly what the top brass tell them to do, so I find Ailes' comments to be rather humorous and certainly insincere.

At least he's not doubling down on his right to be as outlandish as possible like Palin.

At least he's not doubling down on his right to be as outlandish as possible like Palin.

But it'll be back to normal before you know it. The educated people aren't on the GOP's side so Ailes feels he can say whatever he wants because his audience isn't sophisticated.

The off the point posts continue

About Fox's audience smart quotient etc

Ailes did a good thing

PERIOD

We'll see if they (hosts) listen

I wouldn't believe Ailes if he said good day.

Interesting though that FOX must be afraid for one of the first times ever.

He didn't do a great thing.

He's running backwards and is now realizing that they may actually lose revenue over this.

Because, with Roger and Rupert.

That is the only motivation.

Just like those who listen to Fox News those who work for Fox News have selected hearing.

It's not cancer anymore. It's Saggitarius.

Ailes could've .........

said nothing

or defended his network's actions

given their warm response to pres. obama's speech and rush's "fox kisses pres. obama's ass" ................ he could've

FOX News is very powerful

he could've done status quo or defense

he did not

as for YOU and how YOU feel about just about everything

YOU seem to not trust anyone or anything that doesn't have your political POV

and that says more about YOU than those you critique

how about ...........

JUST MAYBE THE WORLD IS CHANGING A BIT

THAT PRES. OBAMA'S WORDS FOR MILLIONS TO HEAR STRIKE A CHORD

how about that?

I think it's possible

The fact that the head of a "News" outlet needs to tell hist staff to do their job "intellectually" is important. Doing their job intellectually is ... their job. Journalism requires intellect. What have they been doing up till now?

Maybe ailes' counterpart at msnbc should offer the same mea culpable

Betcha they don't

But they should

Self awareness is a commendable thing

And your joyful naivete is what we love best about you.

Remember.

Sermo Villis.

Vino Pretio Sum Est.

What this suggests though, is that Ailes is saying they've been doing it all wrong up to now.

I'll bet their numbers are dropping.

Look again.

How about comparing their numbers to 2009:

FOXNEWS O'REILLY 3,295,000 -(377,000) -11.44%
FOXNEWS HANNITY 2,603,000 -(524,000) - 20.1%
FOXNEWS BAIER 1,997,000 -( 57,000) - 2.9%
FOXNEWS SHEP 1,950,000 -(167,000) - 8.4%
FOXNEWS BECK 2,403,000 -(623,000) -26.92%
FOXNEWS GRETA 1,460,000 -(690,000) -32.09%

Total decline -(2,438,000) -17.8%

Holy fuck.

The ad sales beancounters in the cubicles at Murdoch's must be shitting water. Do you have any idea what those viewers represent in ad revenue?

And there is your answer to why Roger knows what Ailes the Fixed News Network. And they must be realizing that they are actually alienating viewers with their ceaseless barking.

Is this the decline and fall of Faux Nooz?????????????????

Thanks for posting these numbers. I'd meant to look into this this week, but with one thing and another, the troubles of Fox just fell to the wayside.

And while I expect Roger Ailes' love child to turn up to spin this somehow, it doesn't change the fact that an 18% drop across the board of viewers for these shows spells disaster.

It is something to do with demographics. Or maybe people are finally saturated with anger and outrage.

I notice, for instance that Baier and Shep are the ones with the least drop in viewers.

Honest to God, Baier is almost invisible in the world of television.

While he is an erstwhile interviewer, you never hear anyone talking about a landmark interview he's ever done, compared to the greats in the business.

Now Shep is a guy I can get behind.

just saw these... i dont believe Fox News is worried about revenue

little confused fellas

Bear Daddy - I'm guessing your #s are for one night? as in that Thursday?

and Rareboy - you're giving figures for 3Q'2009?

and you're comparing them?

apples
oranges

apples are good
oranges I like
but they're not the same thing

so do it again rareboy

as for bret baier - he's a newsman - and much better than shepherd who i appreciate being on our team ;) but he's sort of a access hollywoodish guy IMO

look at those #s again fellas

Oh my God! I never realized Chris Matthews ratings were so bad. Lower than Ed Schultz? I didn't think anyone was lower than Mr. Ed.

Is it a good thing that FOX news has basically admitted its own anti-intellectualism, bias, and professional deficiencies?

I still don't care.

I didn't care about them before they admitted it. I didn't care about them when their audience was supporting their supposed objectivity and clear thinking. And I don't care now.

I knew what they were. The only thing that has changed is that now many others know it too. And with this admission, the rest can't deny it any more.

How about these?

Fox News dominated the cable news landscape in third quarter of 2010 and had the top 11 programs in cable news for the month of September, though the network was down -21% in Total Viewers and down -26% in younger viewers compared to Sept. 2009 (Total Day, Mon-Sun)

Total Day (Mon-Sun): 1.016m total/267k A25-54
Prime (Mon-Sun): 1.831m total/443k A25-54

“The O’Reilly Factor” was the top program in cable news, averaging more than 2.8 million Total Viewers and 680,000 A250-54 demo viewers, but the show was down -12% (Total Viewers) and -21% (demo) compared to Sept. 09. “Hannity,” “Glenn Beck,” ”Special Report” and “On the Record” rounded out the top five — but all shows were also down double digits compared to Sept. ’09.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...gan-gets-little-help-from-ricky-gervais/79685

And for the comparable P2+ numbers for January 20, 2011 versus January 21, 2010:

Beck -(1,543,000) -46.43%
Hannity -(1,336,000) -39.12%
O'Reilly -(1,920,000) -39.68%
Shep -(1,058,000) -37.2%
Baier -(1,125,000) -36.7%
Greta -(236,000) -13.9%

And of course..........there's Fox and Fellow Travellers in the morning...-(553,000) -39.8%...........

Oh Sweet Jesus. Please make the hurting stop.......a loss of 7,218,000 viewers.

What is that worth in ad revenue?

BTW, wasn't it Laika who was writing at the top of his lungs about a year and a half ago about the ever growing audience for Fox News Network and about how I was wrong that their audience numbers had peaked becuase of the 2008 election?

By the way. My next prediction?

Fox will pick up steam again as the 2012 election cycle becomes a grinding din in our ears. They'll see which way the wind blows and present the 'fair and balanced' republican point of view to suit the RNC strategy. If the Repubs get nasty, expect all gloves off at Fox....otherwise, expect that Fox is going to distance itself from the angry white fundamentalist take-back-our-country teabagger strategy of 2008/09 and work like hell to get the moderates on board.

The other game changer will be whether the house becomes paralyzed with hearings into every aspect of Obama's past and future life.

Or if there is the kind of scare-the-shit-out-of-American disaster that has everyone glued to their tube 24/7.

But in the absence of pot-boiler scandals and unimaginable tragedy, the truth is, the viewers have just become bored being plugged into the talking heads at FOX, MSNBC and CNN 12 hours per day.
