got home a little late - new players meeting for the NYGFL (NY Gay Football League) - turned on the tube to MSNBC .....

Rachel Maddow on with Nancy Pelosi

Nancy did a monologue with Rachel mooning - threw here a couple softballs - let Nancy tell us why Democrats are so superior to Republicans

I started to spit up so ........... flipped over to Fox

Sean Hannity with Reince Preibus - talking about the President's Libyan fiasco and aftermath - with Hannity doing MOST of the talking and Reince looking as if he was ok with that

Hannity btw has been IMO ginned up to the max in the past couple weeks - rather than just listing Obama failures and bemoaning unfair media coverage in a concise and almost monotone way ....... he has taken to literally getting excited and mad about it

he needs a break

Rachel has morphed from IMO a very intelligent but somewhat fair minded host to a rabid, obnoxious hard to listen to partisan

she and Sean have very different styles - Rachel is much more caustic - Sean is more of a hammer

Both 9pm hours were outrageously partisan and bad

with zero semblance of fairness

It's sad that more programs can't be like Morning Joe which on its worst day is the best political show on TV

Another big difference between the two is that Dr. Maddow uses real facts (albeit with the help of her staff) while Sean simply makes things up. And Rachel's education is far more extensive and impressive than Sean's. Doctoral degree from Oxford vs. dropping out of college . . twice. No contest. Although his seminary high school education sure is impressive. . .

Going from NYGFL to cable news politics, that's quite an interesting life you must lead. Frankly, I would like to hear more about the NYGFL.

spiff - have you noticed a change in Rachel? for me it's very obvious and unappealing - she used to have my full respect - i have always been a fan and she clearly is bright - very

it just seems that on msnbc there is almost a contest who can be the craziest and the meanest

i made the comparison because they are on at the same time and i flipped from one to the other - rachel clearly has the capacity to be smart and passionate but fair - as she has done it - sean does not have that capacity - it's just disappointing that she has morphed into olberman-esque ways

as for NYGFL - first year - a buddy played last year and raved about it - 20 teams - 7 on 7 (10-11 total players per team) - flag football - 60 yd field with first downs which i find odd - seems like it will be a high scoring league - some guys seem hard core - and real good - some average - some beginners - i'm interested to see how it plays out - had evals and one practice so it's still early - i've already met 1/2 dozen guys that are friends potential so it's a win

first game is saturday night - will keep u posted

LOL Chance. The funny thing is, I find "saucy" Rachel to be much more relaxed. So when she hasn't been hitting the bottle, she get's angsty: either that or she hasn't been tribbing with her GF lately. I'd rather not think about the latter.

^ yeah talk about buzzkill

I like the "saucy" riff

Not sure our resident "Sausy" will like it ;)

FYI my NYGFL team name ??

I must admit... I fucking love Rachel Maddow... if only I were straight... wait, I guess that still wouldn't work...

As for her caustic wit... shockingly, I am okay with that...;)

As Spiff pointed out, Maddow's show is just so much more intelligent and witty... that the comparison is really hard to even conceptualize... like, can you even imagine a Maddow/Hannity debate??? She is, of course, ridiculously partisan and preaching to the choir. But, there are far worse partisan shows on MSNBC- Ed Schulz is nauseatingly bad... my favorite are his viewer polls (like showing the audience a poll of Obama up by 10% in Ohio and then asking, "Who do you think will win Ohio?" At least with Rachel, it is evident she actually knows what she is talking about... even if all of her facts are one-sided.

I don't actually think she has gotten much less fair-minded (though there were a few moments during the RNC that were a bit much) and she definitely isn't approaching Olbermann territory... I think she just feels this election is really important and posseses stark contrasts... and that election season tends to bring out the crazies on the right...

Is it possible, perhaps, that your positions have just changed somewhat and her commentary just comes across as more biting now?

As for Morning Joe, because you relentlessly plug it (do they pay you), maybe I'll start recording it to see what the cool kids are raving about...;)

I have a lot of respect for Rachel Maddow. Yes, she's a partisan, but she's a decent journalist who pays attention to the facts and details.

She's also on our team, and to have an open lesbian in such a high place of journalism is a good thing for our community.

I rather watch a real person Maddow then piece of Fox crap like Hannity.

As long as the Republicans are going to pay braying asses like Hannity to barf up lies every day, thank goodness that in that tiny, tiny niche of the world that is cable 'news', the Democrats are paying for someone like Rachel to wield a cudgel for the other team.

The difference between them is night and day.

I don't care for either one -- but have to say Maddow really gets on my nerves -- maybe it's her voice and manners.

Maddow's facts many times are facts -- but not the whole facts.

Ed Schulz is nauseatingly bad... my favorite are his viewer polls (like showing the audience a poll of Obama up by 10% in Ohio and then asking, "Who do you think will win Ohio?"

Ed Schultz: Let's go to the cell phones, I want to know what you think. Does Mitt Romney trip aging nuns in the street for his own amusement? Text 1 for yes, 2 for no.

[later in the show]

The results are in, 98% of you said Mitt Romney trips aging nuns in the street for his own amusement, 2% of you said he doesn't.

The polls are silly and a hoot. But I still like Ed.

When Racel makes a mistake, she owns up to it. Fox................

Perhaps after the game you could take a picture of your tight end and post it here!

That is the best part. Like true journalist if they report something in error they correct it. I also like that they use typically facts that you can go search out yourself. Spend a minute listening to Limbaugh and he has so much bullshit from partisan paid for sources that you can not view unless you pay a fee. Limbaugh also leaves out most of the facts that contradict his viewpoint.

Fox I used to love with Shepard Smith and Brit Hume. Shep I think could report for any network and he just does the news not the opinion bullshit. Brit is major league in the bag for republicans BUT what he says he does with an honest belief and without the malice associated with most other right wingers. He doesn't need to the facts speak for themselves.

Rachel Maddow is usually on point with a liberal point of view and I rarely see her take cheap shots. Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, Al Sharpton all take cheap shots that are not entirely true but Maddow rarely does. I really like it when Ezra Klein does her show. He is seriously about the wonkish facts and policy. Plus he is seriously good looking.

:rotflmao:

This is precisely how every poll on that show goes... I mean they must know how ridiculous it is, right?

^ Agreed, LuvFindsAndy. Jack, what the hell do you mean by "many times" facts vs. "whole" facts?
