Franken Destroys Focus On The Family Witness, Exposes Misuse Of HHS Study

During this morning’s Senate DOMA hearings, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) destroyed Focus on the Family’s Tom Minnery’s argument that children are better off with opposite-sex parents by demonstrating how Minnery misrepresented an HHS study. The study — which Minnery cited to oppose marriage equality — actually found that children do best in two-parent households, regardless of the parents’ gender. Watch it:

I can't say enough good things about Al Franken, and this just adds to it.

I can tell from experience that the worst kids come from broken families and it isn't even close. I know of one gay couple (lesbians) that raised pretty good kids. I know this isn't much to go on, but comparing their kids with the majority of the mainstream kids, I'd think people who've seen what I have seen would say that kids need two parents, no matter what gender each is.

What I find pathetic is that the witness problem doesn't give a damn about single-parent homes. He has an agenda. 79% of inmates were raised by a single mother. If he really cared about society, he'd lobby for banning single motherhood or something else. But instead he chose a battle that he'll eventually lose.
 
Franken has always had extraordinary political (and comedic) talent. And anyone who writes a book about Rush Limbaugh being a big, fat idiot is a hero to me.

I joined the Navy before I came out and a guy I met took me to some friends home. 2 guys with a teenage son and daughter. They told of a salesman coming and asking for the lady of the house, the girl yelled "Frank it's for you"!
That was about 1962, San Diego. No problem.
 
One thing though.

I was disappointed based on the thread title.

I was expecting that Franken had literally destroyed this asshat.

Although maybe later the guy's head exploded from his ass being clenched so tight.
 
I am impressed every day at how good Franken has become. I'm proud to say that I voted for him in 2008.

It doesn't even have to be a marriage: in Indiana I met a family composed of two brothers, whose wives had been off together and gotten killed in a car accident, who brought the two families together and raised them as a single family with two dads. It seemed a bit odd to some, but the conservative rural German Lutheran congregation they were part of staunchly supported them. They intended to keep the family that way until the youngest kids were into high school before considering remarrying.

An interesting side effect was that the family farm, which had been divided between them, was united again, and they set it up as a family corporation.

I have no reason to believe they didn't follow their plans, and the kids are now solid citizens with successful lives.

The Republicans didn't have any problem in 1980 when an *ACTOR* was running for President (and of course won) though, did they?

After all, a comedian is only another type of actor.

Yes.

I've been totally reserving judgment on him till now, but that was very well done. I found myself thinking he would have made a great defense attorney.
 
I don't agree with Al Franken's politics, but I always give credit where credit is due.

He did a good job in that video.
