Re: Gay Marriage Held Across from Westboro Baptist Church

^ "Down" doesn't necessarily mean "south". :-)

This is a fantastic story. After the rulings came through, I felt much less like a second-class citizen in my own country, though it will be a long time before my own state recognizes same-sex marriage. However, this little bit of progress may encourage more of us to come out and keep the progression moving.

Well I will have to admit I have lived all over the nation and have not found a single dialect that employs down to mean other than south... expect of course in the terms of going downtown.... or down into the city... but perhaps....

Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

A very good and timely article from the White House. Nothing good can be said about the WBC. I really don't remember him signing that law. But good on him!:luv2:

Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. and 4 other petitions
Here's What We Have to Say About the Westboro Baptist Church

The We the People Terms of Participation explain that "the White House may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government."

--snip--

That all said, we agree that practices such as protesting at the funerals of men and women who died in service to this country and preventing their families from mourning peacefully are reprehensible-- a point that President Obama has made for years. That's why he signed a law to ensure that protesters keep an appropriate distance at military funerals. As the President has said, “The graves of our veterans are hallowed ground, and when men and women die in the service of their country and are laid to rest, it should be done with the utmost honor and respect.”

Re: Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

I vaguely remember the speech where the President made the comments about the graves of the military being hallowed ground. It may have been when he signed this bill or during another speech.

But I believe that the FBI does in fact have a watch list, and I would be surprised if WBC was NOT on that list.

I would be surprised if the FBI does not have direct access to the inner workings of the organization.

I found this on a cousins Facebook page.

Westboro Church is nothing more then in cult of family in breeders.

Not so sure -- it's all family, so there's not much of an organization to infiltrate. Besides that, what's to know? They're very public about everything -- they don't want any secrets; they want everyone to know how deep their hate is.

Re: Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

What a different administration this is from the last!

GWB officially promulgated hate against homosexuals, with assistance from ancillary hate groups like Westboro Baptist Church.

Now, the Obama administration calls these people out for who they are: reprehensible bigots who preach hatred in the name of God.

Good riddance, WBC. Nobody cares about your anti-Christian message any more.

Re: Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

What does legal recognition of a hate group do? The Southern Poverty Law Center already recognizes WBC as a hate group, but how does giving the recognition legality change things?

The only thing I can think of would be some significance for federal hate crime law.

I guess that makes sense. Maybe it would be easier to convict members of a group if has legal recognition. Thanks Kuli.

Re: Official White House Response to Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

It's my understanding that most of the members of WBC are lawyers. It was kinda assumed in the last conversation I had where their name came up that most of what they do is an attempt to bait people into a physical encounter. After said encounter there would of course be a lawsuit.

Westboro Klan to visit Corpus Christi, I need to go to church for the service! Not!

This Judge here has committed suicide and the Sheriff's dept has no cause for it. The will left his estate to Albert Fuentes but there is still no reason. Talk around town suggests a gay relationship but no one is coming forward saying so. How Phelps and ilk know about this is beyond me. Anyway sparks are gonna fly, I'm hoping.

Church Claims They'll Protest Judge's Memorial Service

CORPUS CHRISTI - A family-run church known to picket military funerals is threatening to protest a memorial service planned for District Judge Tom Greenwell.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas issued the release this afternoon of their plans to be at the United Methodist Church on Shoreline Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

Greenwell committed suicide last Monday inside his office at the Nueces County courthouse. The sheriff's office is still investigating what led to his suicide.

A handwritten will was found that left everything Judge Greenwell owned to a 36-year-old man named Albert Fuentes. Greenwell told KZTV back in 2006 that Fuentes was like a son to him.

Re: Westboro Klan to visit Corpus Christi, I need to go to church for the service! Not!

I just thought. I'm hoping some of these local Latinos take offense for it and take care of the Klan. Who knows who this Albert Fuentes is, he may have family in the Mexican Mafia around town.

Re: Westboro Klan to visit Corpus Christi, I need to go to church for the service! Not!

I'm surprised no one has turned the firehouse on them. Unfortunately they place their little children in front of their pickets and use them as human shields.

Re: Westboro Klan to visit Corpus Christi, I need to go to church for the service! Not!

I'm curious to see what will happen if the locals come out in force. If this Albert Fuentes was his lover then no problem. The judge did say a while ago that he considered Albert as if he were a son. So? Give him the Judge's estate! No one has said this was a homosexual situation.

Re: Westboro Klan to visit Corpus Christi, I need to go to church for the service! Not!

The best way to handle the Westboro nutjobs is to give them as little publicity as possible. Sooner or later, they will either disband for lack of funds or they'll all be shot by another crazed loon.

The reason I'm not going to the memorial is I have a cane with a brass horse's head on it. I'm afraid it would reach across the children that the cowards are holding in front of them for protection and bust a couple of heads.

For the Westboro Cult to travel who provides them all the funds?
