I can't play my own purchased DVD movies on Vista. They don't even register when I insert them into the drive, so it doesn't matter what software I try. I thought Vista was supposed to be a media oriented OS. . .???

Does your drive read other CD's or DVD's you have? There might be a cable disconnected, or your missing something.

If it reads other CD's or DVD's than your gonna have to wait for Noelie or someone else to help you on that one.

yes my drive reads everything except movie dvds. I didn't have this problem on XP. As I mentioned before, trying different video software isn't going to help. When I insert a movie dvd, my player doesn't even recognize the dvd; I can't even open or explore it with the drive letter.

then your most likely missing a driver, or you got a defective copy of Vista. I have Vista, and it reads all of my DVD's and movies blah blah.

Your missing something. You might have deleted the wrong thing, maleware, a virus cou,d have fucked something up.

i say back up all your stuff, and do a clean reinstall of Vista. BUT waaait until Noelie or someone else not saying switch to Mac or Linux can help you.

I didn't miss anything. I didn't delete "the wrong thing." This was happening as soon as Vista was first installed. More likely it's my player which may need a firmware update. It was also new when I installed Vista.

Can you open and explore any DVD disc (especially data DVDs)?

I know you said that you can open other discs but we need to know that you can specifically open data DVDs.

Yes, any other type of DVD discs work normally in all aspects. No, the problem isn't that my player is dirty; that would mean other discs are impacted, which are not. I've googled my problem and I'm fairly certain it's the firmware.
