I can't play my own purchased DVD movies on Vista. They don't even register when I insert them into the drive, so it doesn't matter what software I try. I thought Vista was supposed to be a media oriented OS. . .???

Does your drive read other CD's or DVD's you have? There might be a cable disconnected, or your missing something.I can't play my own purchased DVD movies on Vista. yes my drive reads everything except movie dvds. I didn't have this problem on XP. As I mentioned before, trying different video software isn't going to help. When I insert a movie dvd, my player doesn't even recognize the dvd; I can't even open or explore it with the drive letter.Does your drive read other CD's or DVD's you have? Can you open and explore any DVD disc (especially data DVDs)?
I know you said that you can open other discs but we need to know that you can specifically open data DVDs.
