  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Free The Hard-Up 1.

Jason is a little more levelheaded than those two (okay a lot more) and his opinion is missing.

Agreed to "a lot more" levelheaded.

JUB doesn't need to bring back intolerant people
What can I say...you are just wrong.

Oh. And all the Russian troll farm ops that have come and gone on JUB as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes our forum has these operatives....just like on Facebook.

I do thank my friends here for making the appeal. I cannot return to posting as long as I'm filtered.

Some of us still miss you anyways!

The JUB overlords should consider that the forums are not exactly the hottest spot on the internet. The naughty forums may get a little bit more traffic, but the discussion forums, mainly HT and CE&P are populated by a limited number of people, many of whom have been here for more than a decade and seem to have no problem calling out people for bad ideas. Sure there are occasional hissyfits and hurt feelings but compared to social media sites, this place is one big group hug. There have been no personal threats of violence and as far as I know, none of us are rallying to shoot up a Chick-fil-A. I see no advertisers to offend, at least on the discussion forums. So what exactly we are being protected from?

Diversity of opinion.

I suspect it's more complicated than that.

The lure of authority has always been less about enforcing an established set of rules than it has been about subjugation filtered through one's own code of ethics and beliefs.

You can say something completely benign that offends no one but if it triggers a moderator, you're gone.

He was able to immediately post here not "posts are held for days or weeks or months" so it appears to be his filtering/banning is over and he can do what he wants and it seems he wants out.

That's true. In the past I have only ever been banned and/or censured by one particularly vindictive, humourless, power-mad mod.

Perhaps one of the Mods could enter the discussion.

Diversity of opinion.

Tolerance of intolerance destroys tolerance. Not all "opinion" qualifies as legitimate diversity of opinion.

Paradox of tolerance

The paradox of tolerance states that if a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually seized or destroyed by the intolerant. Karl Popper described it as the seemingly paradoxical idea that in order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must retain the right to be intolerant of intolerance.

The same principle applies to internet message boards. Something Facebook has not grasped, but which JUB, in my view, has generally been fairly good at.

Just to be clear, this is a general statement and I am not pointing specifically to anyone posting in this thread.

No. My posts are still held until a mod releases them. Every one of them.

You can see the evidence in Travis' poop thread. He thanked the other posters, because when he was replying, my post wasn't visible. It was released afterwards, and was inserted in the timestamp where it would have been were it to be posted in real time, causing it to miss the discussion, or in this case, acknowledgment.

I will admit, he pulled a lot of arguments out of his ass, but...nah, leave'em banned.
