Is anyone watching Fringe? I've watched all 3 episodes so far and while I'm intrigued with the idea of it I'm not sure I actually like the show. I usually love these off-beat conspiracy science fiction shows but something seems out of kilter with it and I'm not sure what it is. Anyone else have an opinion?

.

I agree, I've only seen two so far, and while the premise is good, it just seems a little.... off. I don't know, I think its probably that its poorly executed, they need to find someone else to do their special effects too :P It all seems a little too convenient, its like suddenly there's a problem, but luckily the doctor can come up with a solution in a number of minutes.

I dont think anyone beats Marshall from Alias for uber-smart/awkward person.

i only saw the first one but i agree it was intriguing, very X Files-esque... Plus, i still think Joshua Jackson is hot...

i'm enjoying it so far, but i feel like the story is a bit shallow. it seems like there should be some kind of deeper, under-lining story or connection that doesn't seem to be there. and i kind of feel like they're giving up too much information too soon, but maybe i'm just used to LOST. and so far it seems that every episode is kind of the same format... which bores me.

maybe my expectations are just too high?

i like the show and will probably watch it (unless it jumps the shark) for the full season and hope that it continues to get more and more interesting.

I'm watching it...and liking it.

I sort of like that there is an overall mystery as to who's behind what's going on; but in terms of the mystery of the week on the show, we do get some solid answers.

I'm not completely sold on it either, but I am enjoying John Noble as a crazy, mad scientist....Much better than a crazy, mad throne steward from Gondor...

I like it as well. It is silly how people say it's like x-files. It is not like it at all. The only thing similar is there is a male and female lead and it sci-fi. The format, the style, the dynamic, is completely different. Plus the over-arching thing in x-files is aliens. It has nothing to do with aliens.

I love Pacey's chracter but the crazy dad is annoying as hell. The woman is kind blah.

Oh, this was the thread I've been looking for. Yeah, I like it. Actually, I *really* like it. Interesting set of opinions here on this show.

Just finished watching the third episode. I'd say it's pretty so-so. My major problems with it are:

1. Joshua Jackson = Pacey in my mind. I just can't take him seriously in this role. When the character started calling the girl sweetheart, it just made me laugh. Now now Pacey, behave. I think he might grow into this role after awhile, but the pilot was just bad acting.

2. It's pretty formulaic. Basically seems like the whole plot is going to be crazy scientific nonsense mystery of the week. Oh, and don't forget the *shocking* twist at the end of each episode. This works for some shows, I love House & Bones for example. But I think you have to be really invested in the characters and have great writers to make it successful. At this point, I'm not really interested in any of the characters, and the writing has been mediocre.

I'll keep watching, mostly because I give JJ a lot of credit. Alias & Lost are two of my favorite shows of all time. I think it has a chance to turn around if the on-going mystery gets more interesting.

I thought last night's episode was the most reminiscent of x-files, in a number of ways. In episode 4, the overall "mythology arc" got deepened. Episode 5 (last night) sort of took a break from the "mythology" over all. To me, that's "x-files" timing.

Not that I mind. Still watching.

i am interested to see where the show goes

i have watched all the episodes so far

I really like it, but it's one of these shows where I can't make sense of it enough to form any kind of theory about what's going on

I don't think we're supposed to have enough info yet to really make sense of it.

i like the show. i like the writing and i like joshua jackson. he is sexy and funny in this.

I like the way each episode begins, with a weird mystery thing happening and then someone normally dying.

I liked the crazy butterflies. Crazy crazy butterflies.

I've been watching this show since its inception and will now give it a compliment sandwich:

Something good: I absolutely love the theme song and I would really like to be able to play it on the piano.

An area that needs improvement: The episodes are a bit too formulaic for my liking. Someone dies, Walter is somehow connected to it but can't quite remember, Walter remembers the connection and must perform some controversial, highly dangerous experiment to prevent The Pattern from continuing.

Something else good: Hallucination-induced razor butterflies.

I can't figure out if I like Walter's insanity or not. Sometimes its just silly and annoying

I do love Josh Jackson and the lead actress as well. I wish they would do more with Astrid. They needa clearly define her role and Josh Jackson's frankly.

I love the villainess at Massive Dynamic.

Ah, tonight's episode was great. I've missed the show for the past month or two. It's great that it's back.

Sorry, this joke of a show is only watchable if you send your brain to sleep before.
X-Files was a reality show compared to that.

I'm surprised more people don't watch this show. I infrequently like network dramas nowadays. This I like.

My ex got me into it last season, watching a couple episodes and the season 2 finale. I like being able to enjoy one individual episode but still have it almost always relate to the mythology the show is gradually creating. I normally criticize over-formulaic shows (House), but this show balances it well with the ongoing story.
I remember hearing about it when it debuted, but I had doubts and never watched it.
Having seen the end of season 2, I kind of knew about some things going into it. That didn't stop me from watching all of season 1 over the holidays and now season 2, then I can catch up.

I do think the glyphs show before commercials are completely lame and pretentious though. Each one is a different letter and it spells out a word... one time it was "olivia". It doesn't improve the show or enhance the viewing experience in any way. It's just weird for the sake of being weird. I'd expect no less from Lost producers.

Walter is a great enough character to keep watching, but I like Olivia too. I'm not sure Jackson is a good fit, but he does well enough.
