Frustrations of Hooking up Online

Not to be funny but just to unload my frustrations of hooking online

my impression of online dating -

• [Me ]: what's up!
• [the guy]: I like you you are gorgeous, I want to have your baby
• [Me ]: okay, well come and get me
• [the guy]: uhhh ...
• [Me ]: what?
• [the guy]: ah okay I will come and get you now
• [Me ]: okay
• [the guy]: ...
• [Me ]: okay I am waiting?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: did you die?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: go to the hospital?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: lost your internet connection?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: what seems to be the problem?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: not interested?
• [the guy]:
• [Me ]: uhh okay, moving on I guess.

and now, to illustrate, one of my most recent conversation over email with a guy, using actual replies of "the guy".

• [Me ]: I'd love to play.
• [the guy]: Hey man
• [Me ]: hey
• [the guy]: When r u free?
• [Me ]: Sat. any time
• [the guy]: Ok. I'm free late tonight & sat n sun
• [Me ]: send a pic please
• [the guy]: I have plenty. 1 sec. [pic]
• [Me ]: okay it's a "go". let's play now (friday)
• [the guy]: I'm at work til late
• [Me ]: how about saturday then?
• [the guy]: Possibly
• [Me ]: so are you looking to play [this way]?
• [the guy]: Wherever u want. Probably [that way].
• [Me ]: okay so let me know the time you want to meet, cuz I'm free
• [the guy]: ...
• [Me ]: [Sat. came and went, and me wondering if the guy died, or just no longer interested and is lacking social graces to say so]

well, you and him should write something longer.

In fact, most of you guys online should write something longer than, "what you up to" = no meaning

That's why I prefer the bars. Online hookups are only worth the hassle for middle aged married guys.

Never had to do this because I'm old, and have been in a relationship for 28 years. It apparently works for some people, but the bars were more clear cut. There was a spark or there wasn't. No time lost.

I agree with most.
I did write more, I shortened my lines. I left the guy's verbatim mostly.

I typically write in paragraphs and do find it weird when people write in lines.

Either way, I found bars a better place for hooking up as well, although tiring after a while.

Go outside. Socialize.

Or put some effort into finding an actual interesting topic for conversation.

Meh I could be the kind of guy you're referring to. I think it's a case of just being nervous and unsure about whether gay sex is something you really want to do or not. I've chatted to a couple of guys before but subsequently made it clear I wasn't interested. I wouldn't take it personally.

I agree you should try meeting people face to face but it does depend on how accessible the kind of person you're after actually is. (e.g. looking for an older/straightish guy may be tough irl, or you might be in an area with no obvious gay scene)
