Fuck Amazon

There's a hotline for human trafficking in the US? How do you report the entire prison industry?

I try to not buy too much but same-day delivery is too convenient not to use. I mainly use it for cat food.

Haven't used Amazon for years. Don't plan to in the future, either.

I use eBay because almost everything includes "free" shipping. Yes, could get Amazon Prime but my spending habits don't justify it.

(Full disclosure...we stopped using Amazon around September 2024)

Are others here still addicted to Amazon?

I do shop Amazon on regular basis. And yes I have an Amazon Prime account. I live in a small town. Walmart is our only "big box" store. It is over a 100 miles to reach a larger community. So very often I can't find an item locally. So Amazon shopping would be my next stop. I haven't found a better site as far as Reviews on product. I really really dislike Walmart.com's reviews on their website. Obviously there is no such thing as same day Amazon deliveries here. I do really shop locally even if I know I can save a dollar or two on an item sold on Amazon.

I am enjoying some small consolation that Amazon stock is also tanking this week.

^ I understand your pain.

I made sure we dumped anything from the US Broligarchy weeks ago...although the problem is...so many other funds will be holding these unicorns and will drop like a stone because of it.
And you and millions of others are likely looking at losses in value tht won't be made up if people choke on spending. But bear in mind that Bezos may be counting on stealing the US Postal Service and that could still make you a lot of money in the future.

Worse still, these drops trigger automatic sell orders, so while, I individually would hold on white knuckled, the algorithms will dump to curb the loss.

The thing here is that we will see Bezos buying bck in at the bottom to accumulate more ownership of the company for himself.

I suppose swirling the toilet bowl is one way to get back at his ex for giving all that money away to charity.

UPS is firing 20,000 drivers and shuttering depots because of the collapsing sales through Amazon.

/\ Do/did they pay well and offer good benefits?

It’s crazy how people don’t seem to understand how their reactionary actions have ripple effects. In this case I’m talking about all those MAGA voters who firstly, didn’t know what tariffs do, secondly they thought they were sticking it to the libs and thirdly they thought they were hitting China.

In the imagination of MAGA thé Liberal is some kind of wealthy elite who they seem to think will be the one to suffer the consequences of thé tarrifs. Forgetting that if the Liberal is the wealthy elite, then by their own argument, they, thé MAGA voter is thé economic destitute. By virtue of being the economic destitute if the wealthy liberal will feel the tariffs thé economic destitute more so.

MAGA also seemed to forget that their economic destitution is what also forces them ultimately to shop at retailers where product is MADE IN CHINA. That the reason the West can provide cheap merchandise is because of a dependence we have created with CHINA. It reminds me of the convoy of yokels that put Ottawa under siege. They whined about Trudeau being too close to China, meanwhile thé idiots shop at Amazon, Walmart, and other venues where product is directly linked to China. And it’s for those cheap prices that Trudeau kept a relationship with China and so will any Prime Minister for the foreseeable future regardless of political colour. And these same imbeciles will balk at the notion of higher wages for the worker. Watch how these morons gets when you say à person working at McDonald’s should earn a dignified, living wage. Then they wonder why everything is being offshored to the Global South.

What’s more these tariffs will make superfluous spending -which Amazon relies on- less justifiable amid a depression and recession. So less product moves from Amazon’s shelves, less personnel required to work those warehouses, less deliveries, less need for workers. And this stuff spills. Because less workers means less people venturing into other areas of the economy: restaurants, bars, social entertainments, etc. so more layoffs on the way.

The thing is, none of this is new. We’ve been here before. But this is what happens when your politic is built on being a dimwitted, reactionary, asshole.

Now I don’t fault people for shopping at Amazon, Walmart, or name your big box store here that relies on cheap product from China. In this economy we’re all trying to survive. But, we need to really become more aware to why product is cheap, what that convenience is built on, and how we participate in that reliance on China.

People don’t seem to understand how fair wages and proper living conditions are connected. How disposable culture not only creates environmental catastrophe but reliance on the very thing one claims to be antagonistic towards.
