Unless i am mistaken they also pay taxes. Given the time of the year maybe a little understanding by both the consumer and the postal employees is needed.

I would guess, they were not picking on you deliberately. Or is there a chance you might have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed this a.m.?

I don't know. The postman left me a notice of a certified letter in my mail box. I think all it needed was my signature so he could leave it = a guess, as the slip really did not say. So i signed it and scotch taped it on my mail box. Low and behold when i went to get my mail the next day, there was my certified letter. Obviously we communicated rather well between us. Now if i could just convince him not to leave all those ads i never look at. I hate them and the fact the mail person has to log them arround. But i know it is revenue for the P.O. but as a taxpayer i still resent it.

Anyway, in case the local village idiot has made the situation worse with his comments - Happy Holidays.

Now to the USPS workers. If you were nice to them and they were rude to you, ask to speak to the supervisor. Explain the situation and ask the supervisor to find someone else to work the Saturday overtime since the clerk who waited on you certainly did not appreciate the opportunity he had to make a few extra bucks before Christmas.

If you live in the US than the Post Office is NOT a government job anymore. It hasn't been for some time. They are not in any way affiliated with the government. My next door neighbor is a postal carrier and she told me that most of her co-workers have been pissed and have hated life ever since that happened. Most of their benefits changed and are no longer as good as they were. The pay rate went down as well. Its still no excuse for rudeness but I'm sure that has something to do with it.

This isn't exactly true. The USPS *is* affiliated with the government, although it receives no federal tax money. From the USPS Postal Facts webpage : "The U.S. Postal Service® is the most visible and personal of all federal agencies. People know they can trust us. Postal employees are members of the communities they serve and they make significant contributions." The USPS is subject to the oversight of Congress, and they are (should be) possessors of the public trust.

If you are being treated poorly or rudely, let the Postmaster for your ZIP Code know. And I think they may have anonymous comment cards at most Post Offices.

/\ exactly i'm a fed employee but not the postal service. if you are nice to people they should be nice to you as well. if you were nice and they treated you unkindly you should report it. by the same token, though if someone is really nice you should report that also to give someone kudos for being a good employee.

Unfortunately, they might have to deal with obnoxious customers prior to you, and you just happened to receive the brunt of frustration. i drop off packages at the post office everyday, and let me tell ya, there are some people in line who *I* want to pummel into a powdery substance.

while i agree that they should be able to push aside the frustration, sometimes they have breaking points.

btw, being nice to them was a great thing on your part!

In this litttle town where I live .. I've never had a bad experience with a Postal Worker . They are ALWAYS very polite and kind when I am there , which is about three times per week .
I worked in public service all my life and at one time ran the front line of the largest department store in our town ..which included : Credit Department, 24 Checkouts, Lay-a-Way department , and Customer Service ..... It was pure Hell, especially during the holidays . There were times, I'd have loved to reached under my desk and pulled out the Service Revolver and blown some of them away ... BUT Customers needed to be treated with courtesy and respect ... No matter how the customer before them acted ...
By The Way ... It DOES help to talk to the Post Master or Post Mistress ... whichever the case may be .... My cousin works for the postal service and told me they Can and DO get written Up for poor Customer Service .

When ever I move to another home, I always make the mail carrier my BEST friend! lol

You see they have my life in their hands every day, delivering mail that holds my identity, where if given to the wrong person(s), my life would be severely disrupted...

I mean, I don't kiss their ass of anything; but I do give them a beverage when the heat's 100+ degrees here in 'Vegas and I always wave or say hello to them.......I even make it a point to be at my mailbox and receive the mail sometimes from their hands to mine.....makes it a personal touch!

I think if the postman (or woman) has spoken to you, looked you in the eyes, and said hello to you, how could they lose your valuable mail!!!! LOL LOL

I also give the carrier a holiday card with $20 in it.........I'm told that the carrier can accept up to that amount but not more and stay out of trouble....

........I too have suffered the same rudeness at the Postal Facility and find it very discouraging to stand in line and find that when the time for me to get to the front of the line to have the person I'm seeing close up and go to lunch on me.........and I have to move to another line to see someone else!
Now, that's fustrating!

When ever I'm receiving less than good service, I always ask to see their boss; and on the other hand I have given KUDO's to my carrier at the post office he works out of, etc....

I know that dealing with their job is tedious; but they have to learn to be good too!

I was going to post this very thing. The USPS hasn't been gvernment operated for years. The postal workers are just trying to do their jobs like everyone else, however a number of them are upset because of what was posted above. But it still isn't an excuse for rudeness. Report the person or tell them that if they don't shape up you'll report.

I don't know if it's still current, but the post office always hired temporary employees during the Christmas peak season.
Many of them were very terribly rude, probably because they weren't permanent employees and felt they didn't have to adhere to the rules.
Maybe I'm just lucky but all the employees at my local post office are friendly and polite. So are the carriers. In fact the lady next door (age 96) had fallen in her driveway and he called emergency and stayed with her until they arrived. It was 106 degrees that day and she could have died if he hadn't found her.
There are probably grumpy people everywhere, but they shouldn't be in jobs where they have to interact with the general public. Reporting them is undoubtedly the best way to weed them out.
