Hey all,

Newbie here from Australia.

I'm travelling to the US in February and would like to know where the good places are to meet guys for fun. Cities like New York, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco are on the list.

Any tips or advice will be warmly appreciated. :)

@dwnunderguy

I moved your thread to Hot Topics. You should get more responses here. ;)

Oof, they're going to encourage you to NOT visit the US.

Could you help us by describing your age, and what you do for fun back home? That usually helps in recommending sites and events.

Those places are great fun for dodging bullets.

February is about the worst month to visit the US. NY, Chicago and most northern cities may be bitter cold and snowy when you arrive. You may want to focus on cities in Florida or California.

Yes, well after the recent tragedy that just occurred, I'm somewhat hesitant now to go out now while over there.

However, being 33, what is there to do.

And yes, I'm from Adelaide, so I'm used to not having much to do :P

There are plenty of major museums, sports venues, and landmarks to see in all those cities. And night spots, which are no more at risk than they ever are. It's not like there's a wave of LGBTQ shootings here. We die at random in this country like anyone in a lottery. Some wacko goes high order and people die. If the odds are high enough for that to worry you, I'd find another country to visit. As much as they make the news, it is still obviously statistically rare in a nation of 350,000,0000.

That was my reason for asking for age an interests. I was in San Francisco some time ago in January and still managed to find a chamber music concert, a Chekov play, and did a few other things, but it was a lean season with most performing groups on hiatus at that time.

Never been to NYC in winter.

I started to make a joke about going to Chicago last due to the chances of being shot, but that's reeally not true for tourists. Chicagoans pretty much kill their neighbors.

Maybe consider DC, Boston, Dallas, and somewhere in the Rockies. Those major cities a have good indoot attractions. If you're not going to ski in the Rockies, they are still amazing and beautiful in snow.

Look up each city's Calendar of Events online for your intended time to visit. See what plays, concerts, sports, and events will be happening.

If you're avoiding cold, then you'll obviously have to go south, to Los Angeles, San Diego, New Orleans, Miami, or even Mexico, which is close by, and beautiful.

I'm from Philadelphia. We have a walkable Gayborhood, lots of culture, performances, and museums, and our visitors seem to love us.
We're near New York. It's an easy train ride away. There's so much to do there.

February is cold. We can get snow.

I love Chicago, but I only go there in winter for Blackhawks hockey. It's COLD. August is wonderful there.

Bon voyage!

Tuesday, February 21, is Mardi Gras. That means New Orleans will be at its most exciting, most crowded, and most expensive. I love New Orleans when it's less frenetic. The weather is lovely.

I’m definitely coming over for the cold weather and snow. I did a stint in Pennsylvania in 2015 during winter, but I was there for a semester of college so I didn’t get to explore much.

I’ll be in New York, DC, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco.

I really am thankful for the advice you guys are giving me :) keep them coming :)

There's always stuff going on in NYC and Chicago and San Fran.

DC can be a little sleepy but hit the Smithsonian at least. And there are tons of homos in politics and government hanging around.

Seattle is unknown for me. Except it will likely be dull and rainy.

For me a bad sign for city life is when it has a space tower and aquarium as two of the top rated things to do.

I recommend that you run a few searches for each city on upcoming events and even narrow in on gay events during the times you will be visiting in order to give you some ideas.

Thanks!

Yea I agree and suspect Seattle will be a bit boring for that. I have another reason I’m going there though. :)
